Warning: Spoilers ahead forSolar Oppositesseason 5, episode 2, “The Never-ending Honeymoon Story.”
Summary
Solar OppositesandStar Trekaren’t two franchises one would assume are connected, but the former has dropped a huge hint that suggests they’re both set within the same continuity. Much of theStar Trektimelinetakes place after the events ofSolar Oppositesunfold, but that doesn’t necessarily prevent the two worlds from colliding. The sheer amount of content on the streaming platform meansSolar Oppositeswould struggle to break into the category ofbest TV shows on Hulu, but it’s still entertaining. If it is connected toStar Trek, that would be something of a game-changer.
Solar Oppositesseason 6 has already been confirmed, which proves the success of the animated comedy show. Of course,Solar Opposites' time on the air pales in comparison when compared withStar Trek’s longevity. However, the theory that connects them both could mean that they’re part of the same enormous story. It all comes down to one alien species in both shows that share an eerily similar description.

Solar Opposites Season 5’s 10 Funniest Easter Eggs & Pop Culture References
Solar Opposites season 5 features all kinds of pop culture Easter eggs and references, and here are the 10 funniest ones from throughout the season.
Solar Opposites Season 5’s Progenitors Sound Startingly Similar To The Progenitors From Star Trek
The Progenitors were a huge part of Star Trek: Discovery’s final season
InSolar Oppositesseason 5, episode 2, “The Never-ending Honeymoon Story,” Terry and Korvo’s scheme to extend their post-wedding bliss is achieved with technology harvested from a familiar sounding species: the Progenitors.Star Trekfans' ears may prick up at his reference, asthe Progenitors made their debut inStar Trek: The Next Generation. More recently, theProgenitors returned inStar Trek: Discovery’s final season.
Korvo reveals in “The Never-ending Honeymoon Story” that the Progenitors in Solar Opposites' created the solar system, which is definitely within the skill set of the Star Trek aliens of the same name.

Korvo reveals in “The Never-ending Honeymoon Story” thatthe Progenitors inSolar Opposites' created the solar system, which is definitely within the skill set of theStar Trekaliensof the same name. The Progenitor’s tech inStar Trek: Discoveryis highly sought after, with the extinct race responsible for creating all humanoid life in the universe.Solar Oppositesdoesn’t credit the Progenitors with powers quite so god-like, but it’s not a huge leap to assume that a race that can create a complex network of planets and moons could also create life.
The Aliens In The Progenitors' Ship In Solar Opposites Season 5, Episode 2 May Not Be The Progenitors
There is an argument to be had that the Progenitors inSolar OppositesandStar Trekare not the same race. The biggest piece of evidence to refute the theory is the presence of aliens on the Progenitors' ship inSolar Opposites, who look nothing like the species shown inThe Next GenerationandDiscovery. However, this doesn’t necessarily disprove anything. The aliens shown on the ship in “The Never-ending Honeymoon Story” may not be the Progenitors at all, but rather members of another alien race who also wanted access to the Progenitors' tech and failed.
The four-eyed alien species - the members of which are discovered in comically compromising positions by Terry and Korvo - could also exist somewhere in theStar Trekuniverse.

They don’t look like theStar Trekrace, but they may be another species entirely who died trying to find the Progenitors' advanced technology. If so, then the four-eyed alien species - the members of which are discovered in comically compromising positions by Terry and Korvo - could also exist somewhere in theStar Trekuniverse, despite never being shown. This would be a creative way to introduce a new alien species to the enormous sci-fi franchise, if not also a little unconventional.
Legal Issues Currently Make An Official Solar Opposites/Star Trek Crossover Difficult (But Not Impossible)
Disney & Paramount would need to collaborate for this to work
Star Trekis owned by Paramount, and Disney ownsSolar Opposites. So, crossing them over isn’t as simple as just wanting to do it and enacting it. There would be several arrangements that would need to be made from a legal standpoint to accommodate such a scenario. Interestingly, this doesn’t mean it’s completely impossible. There have been many instances of properties owned by separate studios coming together. It’s just less common than crossovers that happen between shows that share an owner. In fact, there’s one very salient example that supports the likelihood of aSolar OppositesandStar Trekcollaboration.
20 Best Crossover Episodes Of All Time, Ranked
Some of TV’s most popular shows have had crossover episodes, from The Simpsons to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. These are the best of the best.
There is an official (and recent)crossover betweenStar Trek: Lower DecksandDoctor Who.Doctor Whois co-produced by Disney, which shows that Paramount is open to collaboration. Unfortunately, the coming together ofStar TrekandDoctor Whois in the form of two mobile games rather than anything quite as exciting as a TV show. So, the team-up requires less negotiation in terms of character rights and other considerations. It’s a small step in the right direction, but it could open the door for a more officialStar Trekcrossover, which could in turn impactSolar Opposites.
