WARNING: This article contains spoilers from the first two episodes of Agatha All Along. After confirming who the dead body was inAgatha All Alongepisode 1, the showrunner for the latestMarvel Cinematic Universeseries explains why their face was never revealed in the premiere. Nearly three years after her debut inWandaVision,Agatha Harknesshas returned to the MCU timeline through her own spinoff series,Agatha All Along. However, one of the biggest aspects in the first twoAgatha All Alongepisodes was exploring the death of Scarlet Witch in theending ofDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
In a newTVLineinterview, Jac Schaeffer, who serves as the showrunner onAgatha All Along, was asked why Wanda Maximoff’s face wasn’t shown in episode 1, as the MCU TV show confirmed Scarlet Witch’s grim fate. Schaeffer, who also createdWandaVision, made it clear thatthere was never a plan to have Elizabeth Olsen’s face be revealed inAgatha All Alongepisode 1, as she shared the following:

You know, that’s a really hard question to answer… It was never the plan to show her face — both stylistically, and because this show isn’t her story, [it] was really about [how] when the body is turned over, the camera’s on Agatha’s face. That’s really where our attention is, and where the focus of the show is.
What Jac Schaeffer’s Comments On Scarlet Witch Mean For Agatha All Along
Even though there were a lot of strong reactions to the way Marvel addressedScarlet Witch inAgatha All Along, Schaeffer is hitting on a lot of key points in her statement. The point of an Agatha spinoff series is that the attention should be fully on Kathryn Hahn, since the show is meant to flesh out her place in the MCU. It is also a solid way to counteract the big cameo obsession that currently exists with a lot of Hollywood properties.
Booking Olsen for a cameo appearance in the premiere only to play a dead body means it would also be expensive for theAgatha All Alongbudget. If anything,it would be far better to save a Scarlet Witch appearance inAgatha All Alongtill later in the season, especially if she is meant to be resurrected, as that is one of the biggest fan theories right now surrounding theWandaVisionspinoff. That would be a better use of Olsen’s potential limited time as part oftheAgatha All Alongcast, while also naturally happening in later episodes when the show gets further into Agatha’s trajectory.

Our Take On The Lack Of Scarlet Witch In The Agatha All Along Premiere
Following theending ofAgatha All Alongepisodes 1 and 2,it would have been very grim to see Olsen back in the MCU for the first time since 2022, but only as a dead body. It will feel far more rewarding ifAgatha All Alonghas a secret Scarlet Witch cameo towards the end of the series, especially if it is to show how Wanda gets resurrected. With seven more episodes ofAgatha All Alongto go, time will tell what the show has in store for the audience.
