Summary

Squid Gameseason 2 releases on August 13, 2025, and Netflix has the perfect three-season K-drama to watch while waiting for the streamer’s biggest show of all time to return. While Netflix had already had great success with K-dramas before 2021,Squid Game’s debut was massive, with the show achieving a never-before-seeing level of popularity. It only took a couple of days forSquid Gameto become Netflix’s most-watched original show ever, making a second season inevitable despite the self-contained nature of the story.Squid Gameseason 1 ended on a cliffhanger, though, meaning that season 2 isn’t really surprising.

WhetherSquid Gameseason 2will be as good or as popular as the first season is remains to be seen. That said,Squid Game’s worldwide popularity cannot be taken for granted. From costumes and masks to a reality show and viral videos, the world hasn’t forgottenSquid Gamedespite the long wait for the second season. Squid Game Ending With Season 3 At Netflix, Eyes A 2025 Release

Despite its success, Netflix officially sets the final season of the very popular Korean drama series, Squid Game, bound to be released in 2025.

Squid Game Season 2’s Cast Includes Two Sweet Home Actors

Squid Game’s Park Gyu-young And Lee Jin-wook Are In Sweet Home

Squid Gameseason 2’s cast includes a lot of new faces, which is understandable considering that most season 1 characters died during the games. Gi-hun, the Front Man, the Salesman, and Detective Hwang Jun-ho are so far the only confirmed characters from season 1 who will return in the second season. Joining them will be, among other names,Sweet HomestarsPark Gyu-young and Lee Jin-wook. InSweet Home,Park Gyu-young plays Ji-su, who recently moved to the Green Home and becomes friends with Cha Hyun-su ahead of a monster apocalypse.

Lee Jin-wook plays Pyeon Sang-wook, a seemingly violent man who, at the start of the series, is torturing a person in his apartment. Sang-wook is later revealed to be quite different from what audiences and the rest of theSweet Homecharacters expected. In season 2, Lee Jin-wook got to play a different character who could inhabit other peoples’ bodies and was currently using Sang-wook’s. Park Gyu-young and Lee Jin-wook only interacted inSweet Homeseason 1, with the former having a smaller role in season 2.TheirSquid Gamecharacters are most likely new players.

How Sweet Home Is Different From Squid Game

Sweet Home Is A Survival Horror Show

BeforeSquid Game,Sweet Homewas Netflix’s most popular original K-drama, having been the first Korean series to appear in the streamer’s Global Top 10. WhereasSquid Gameis an original story written by Hwang Dong-hyuk,Sweet Homeis based on a webtoon of the same name by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-chan.Sweet Homeis a horror show set at the beginning of a monster apocalypsewhose true nature is unknown.Song Kang’s Cha Hyun-suis the main character through which viewers are introduced to the rest of the Green Home residents.

Sweet Home, likeSquid Game, took three years to release a second season, which was filmed back-to-back with season 3.

Sweet Home season 2’s new cast including Park Gyu-young and Lee Jin-uk

WhileSquid Gameis a much more grounded, realistic show compared toSweet Home, they are similar in how they explore a group of characters trying to survive under horrific circumstances. The characters inSquid Gameare aware that all of them but one will diebefore the games end, whereas the ones inSweet Homehave to learn how to work together to survive the apocalypse.

Squid Game Season 2 Is Already Similar To Sweet Home 2 In One Major Way

Squid Game 2 Is As Much Of A Risk As Sweet Home Season 2 Was

Whether Netflix should have renewedSquid Gamefor another season has been a point of discussion for years. A similar question was raised whenSweet Homewas renewed for seasons 2 and 3 despite having already covered all of its source material in the first season. WhileSquid Gamedoes not have source material, the first season could have worked just fine as a standalone limited series had it not been for the Gi-hun cliffhanger at the end.Sweet Homeseason 2 struggled with recapturing the show’s magic, a challenge thatSquid Gamealso faces.

I’m excited to see whatSquid Gamewill do with its new cast members, a list that includes established actors and rising stars.

LikeSquid Game,Sweet Homeseason 2 also brought in several new actors. The difference is that, whereas mostSquid Gamecharacters died in season 1,Sweet Homechose to sideline some of its protagonists while introducing new faces. Park Gyu-young’s Ji-su is a great example of a major season 1 character who did not get to do a lot once the show returned three years later.
