Rick and Mortyseason 8 has me the most excited I’ve been about the show in years. Since 2013,Rick and Mortyhas proven itself as one of the most creative, inventive, and hilarious shows on TV. With wacky sci-fi elements combined with an irreverent comedy that isn’t afraid to experiment and push the boundaries,Rick and Mortyis self-aware, unapologetic, and creative in a way that just doesn’t happen very often on TV, but despite all the highs, the show has had its low points.

For a while, it felt as though the show was largely going in circles, and when scandals came to light that meant the man behind the titular characters' voices had to be replaced, the show’s future hung in the balance. But, despite any and all struggle, the show has found its footing, and season 8 appears to be the perfect opportunity for the show to reclaim that bold, inventive nature that defined it in the early seasons. Of course there have been big changes, butRick and Mortyseason 8is easily the most exciting new seasonof the show in years.

Rick And Morty Season 8 Can Be A True New Beginning For The Show

Rick And Morty Needs To Get Back To The Basics

Rick and Mortyfrequently makes an effort to defy tropes, genre, and definitions. However, the show has established a routine over time, with several recurring elements that became the central narrative plot that people wanted to see progress. Rick And Morty Season 7 Was One Of Transition After The Major Recast

Rick And Morty Got Through Its Biggest Rough Patch

In addition to the overarching revenge plot, season 7 was plagued by one big change that seemed to eclipse all other aspects of the show; the recasting of the core characters. Justin Roiland was one of the co-creators of the show alongside Dan Harmon, and he was also cast as both of the lead characters due to his versatile voice acting. However, in 2023,allegations came to light that resulted in Roiland being dropped by Adult Swim, and thus fired from further participation withRick and Morty.

Of course, this also meant thatnew actors needed to be hired to voice the titular protagonists, Rick and Morty. Considering the popularity of the show, and the prominent roles now needing to be replaced, much of the discussion around the show ended up revolving around the recasting news.Worries about the voices being too different, or the show failing to recapture the magic of earlier seasons were rife. Fortunately, as season 7 proved, this was not the case, and with Harmon’s writing and new actors in place, the shoe continued to excel despite the big changes.
