Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Order! The Orderstar Jude Law has explained how Husk’s mafia story moment is what distinguishes him from Bob Matthews, despite their similarities. Based on real events, the action thriller follows Law’s Terry Husk, an FBI agent who, in 1983 Idaho, investigates a multitude of criminal operations he believes are coming from the same organized group. This trail leads to Bob Mathews (Nicholas Hoult), a neo-Nazi in charge of a white supremacist crime organization. During the film, Husk tells a young police officer, Jamie (Tye Sheridan) a mafia story in an enigmatic scene between the pair.

Speaking withScreen Rantabout Husk telling Jamie his mafia story inThe Order, Law explained how the story differentiated his character from Bob in the process. The actor admits there are similarities between both characters, as they rope people into their fold by drawing from their “beliefs and goodwill.” However, the key difference is Husk is honest about his feelings and what his job can lead someone to becoming, while Bob presents a greed that discards human life as something to be used for personal gain. Check out what Law had to say below:

They’re two sides of the same coin, I suppose, because the similarities are that they’re both driven individuals, and they’re both people who have a cause and a belief that they will give everything up for. You are right, they recruit and draw on other people’s beliefs and goodwill. I suppose the difference is there’s a certain amount of knowledge that Terry Husk has that he’s bringing people into a fold of danger and risk. He almost warns off Jamie, the role that Tye Sheridan plays, from getting too involved emotionally.

Husk wears his own suffering life as a badge, as a demonstration, whereas Mathews uses it almost like he uses his acolytes, almost greedily. He knows that they’re going to lose their lives, but he goes in goading them that they’re living a better life and that they’re going to have some great end. So, there’s falsity and honesty.

Jude Law Talks Becoming His Character In The Order & Facing Off Against Nicholas Hoult

The Order star explains how his detective character, Terry Husk, and Nicholas Hoult’s cult leader, Ben Mathews, are two sides of the same coin.

However, Husk’s story highlights his genuine approach to his job, showing his investigations may involve controlling people, but he’s not doing it for any purpose other than to protect others. This is opposed to Bob’s creation of his white supremacist group, built on his neo-Nazi belief system inspired by William Luther Pierce’s novelThe Turner Diaries. Many of his actions appear influenced by his own preservation, willing to do whatever it takes to survive and lead a group of disgruntled people who are easy to control because of their anger.
