The Night Agentshowrunner teases a different Peter and Rose’s storyline in season 2, arriving on Thursday, January 23. Based on Matthew Quirk’s novel of the same name, the Netflix thriller series followed Gabriel Basso’s Peter Sutherland, an FBI Agent who receives a distressing phone call from Luciane Buchanan’s Rose, which propels them both into the conspiracy behind the dreadful event. After successfully finding the traitor in the White House, Peter becomes a Night Agent at the end of season 1, and Rose is heading back to California to save her company.

Ahead of season 2’s premiere, showrunner Shawn Ryan talks about how Peter and Rose’s storyline will be different in an interview withTVLine. The showrunner shares that he doesn’t want to repeat anything from season 1, and in season 2, he wanted to have Rose “seek Peter out” and “get caught up in this” instead of putting her in danger, which would require Peter to come to her rescue again. Ryan further teases thattheir role will reversein season 2. Check out what he said below:

Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland Looking Grim in The Night Agent Season 1

Well, I certainly didn’t want to do anything that too obviously repeated ourselves. I didn’t want to just have Peter and Rose end up in the exact same situation with the same emotions. So, having Rose sort of seek Peter out and then get caught up in this was better than finding another thing that puts Rose in danger that he’s got to respond to. So in many ways, while Peter came to her physical rescue in Season 1, I feel like in Season 2 Rose comes to his sort of spiritual rescue.

What The Showrunner’s Comment Means For The Night Agent Season 2

Peter Is Going To Be In Trouble

In season 2, Rose is the one who finds herself in danger after her aunt and uncle’s murder. However, based on the showrunner’s comment, Peter seems to be the one who finds himself in deep trouble in season 2 and onward. Rose coming to his “spiritual rescue” also seemingly addressesthe physical distance between the twofollowingThe Night Agentseason 1 finale, where Peter is on an international flight while Rose is going to California. The assistance from Rose will likely be largely long-distant.

The Night Agent Season 2 Will Contain “All The Clues” For Where Netflix Show Goes In Season 3

The Night Agent executive producer Shawn Ryan confirms season 2 will contain “all the clues” for where the Netflix thriller show goes in season 3.

Basso and Buchananhave previously talked about all the questions about their relationship now that the two are not on the run together. Basso stressed thatRose and Peter “had a little Stockholm syndrome,“and it worked in season 1 because “they were both on the run.” However, season 2, which takes place 10 months later, would circle back to the “open question” about where they stand. Buchanan teased that Rose would learn that “he’s not quite the same person that she knew.”

Our Take On Rose And Peter’s Relationship In The Night Agent Season 2

Season 2 Will Put Them Through Tests

It sounds likeThe Night Agentseason 2will test their relationship. Peter has a different role to play. As a Night Agent, he has to cut ties from his personal life, but at the same time, Rose is someone he can trust and rely on when things go down. Of course, Peter’s training will try to convince him otherwise, which could puta strain on their relationship. It doesn’t sound like season 2 will go easy on them.

On the other hand, Ryan’s comment offers some reassurance that they will find themselves in a situation that glues them back together. Like Basso said, their relationship kind of doesn’t work without one of them in danger, but the good thing is that the showisn’t going to reuse the same story arc, where Peter has to come to Rose’s rescue. It’d be interesting to see Peter in deep trouble and having to learn a lesson or two and Rose turning out to be the wise one. WithThe Night Agentseason 2 arriving soon, viewers won’t have to wait too long to find out what will happen to Peter and Rose.
