The Fantastic Four have had some dramatically different looks across their few film appearances, with clear winners and losers.

The Fantastic Four Suit Needs To Differ From The Usual MCU Costumes

The MCU has been using CGI to enhance their on-screen costumes for a while, with some particularly elaborate costumes even being fully digitally created. There are plenty of reasons that Marvel would choose to use CGI, from visual consistency to the actors’ comfort, and they are far from the first studio to do so. However, with many suits seeing complaints that they look too generic - and others receiving criticisms they look too unnatural because of the CGI - it seems some things need to change. Luckily,The Fantastic Foursuits look to be flipping the trend on its head.

The costume in the D23 footage could be far from the final product, but it’s promising that such a look has already been made practically. Considering the time period of the film and the promised retrofuturism aesthetic, the clean blue and white suit conveys the simplicity of the 60sdesign. TheFantastic Fourcostume actually looks to be made of fabric, which makes sense for the era before the technologically advanced suits of the present-day MCU. TheFantastic Fourcostume may be incredibly simple compared to others, but its minimalism is actually what makes it stand out from past MCU suits.

MCU Costumes Are On An Upward Trend

In addition to looking right for the era, theFantastic Four: First Stepcostumes are some of the most comic-accurate live-action Fantastic Four suits yet. The vibrant blue suit with a white neckline and waist largely resembles John Byrne’sFantastic Foursuits from the 1980s comics. Although the MCU has strayed from its source material plenty of times, fans have always enjoyed comic-accurate details.Comic-accurate suitsalmost always go over well with fans, and the MCU has been making a point of capitalizing on that.

Most notably, Wolverine’s yellow hooded suit inDeadpool & Wolverinewas a standout moment as the iconic mask from the comics was finally used in live-action. Kamala Khan’s homemadeMs. Marvelsuit was true to her backstory, and Wanda’s pointed red tiara that she receives after becoming the Scarlet Witch is taken straight from her comic look. There have been some pretty impressive MCU costumes as of late, and ifThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsteaser footage is anything to go off of, the project looks to continue the upward trend.
