Summary

The developers ofThe First Descendantmanaged to sneak in an update on August 11, 2025, which added a host of new content like a new intercept battle, an ultimate weapon, several quality-of-life improvements, Ultimate Valby, and one of the first completely new Descendants since the official release, Luna. Luna is called an “entertainer,” but her concerts are quite deadly to the Volgus and Colossi who oppose her. With that in mind,Luna adds another Descendant to the roster who primarily plays a support role, acting much like a bard.

Luna brings the party with her wherever she goes, and she should bring her party members too. That is because three of her four active parties buff her and surrounding players, while the fourth essentially amplifies those effects. This makes it clear thatLuna will synergize well with any other Descendant, so some ofThe First Descendant’s characterswill benefit more than others.

The First Descendant: Every Character & How To Unlock Them

There are a multitude of characters in The First Descendant that players can unlock which allows them to find the right playstyle for them.

Luna’s Playstyle Revolves Around Buffing Teammates In The First Descendant

An Entertainer Who Lifts The Spirits Of Her Team

Those who have played Lúcio inOverwatchwill feel right at home with Luna’s run-and-gun playstyle. While she does not gain active boosts from sprinting like Bunny, Luna does best when sticking with the rest of the party so they can benefit most from her buffs. This constant movement can conflict slightly with her other mechanics. BecauseLuna’s skills and attacks are amplified when she plays to the rhythmof her music, running around frequently may make it difficult to latch onto the beat.

The key to success with Luna iskeeping a close eye on the condition of herself and her allies. Just as Luna dances to her music, the player must perform a dance of managing the MP meter and Luna’s Inspiration Gauge to keep the buffs coming. Situational awareness will also allow Luna to take advantage of battlefield conditions, switching to damage buffs to start fights or restorative buffs during lulls in the fighting.

Ultimate Valby and Luna in The First Descendant

One thing that may take some practice is Luna’s unique weapon. She is not the first character to have a uniqueweapon inThe First Descendant, but hers is different in its intended use. Other Descendants with unique weapons, like Lepic and Jayber, are expected to use theirs situationally. Luna’s unique weapon, however, should be used as often as possible.Doing so will best take advantage of her other skillsin addition to amplifying her own damage output.

Luna’s Skills Help Other Descendants Use Their Abilities More Effectively

Stay in Rhythm To Boost MP Recovery And Reset Cooldowns

Much like the otherplayable characters inThe First Descendant, Luna is characterized most by her skills. Just like every other Descendant, Luna has one passive ability and four active abilities. Her passive ability is Improvisation, whichincreases her Inspiration Gauge whenever a skill is used. This is similar to several other Descendants, like Bunny and Ajax, who gain a secondary resource in addition to their MP.

Luna’s first active skill,Stage Presence, should really be considered a primer for her other skills. Stage Presence will bring out Luna’s unique weapon, which transitions her into a rhythm mode of sorts, increasing her skill power and amplifying the effects of skills unleashed during this mode. It is critical that the player pays attention to the rhythm, however, as a missed note will actually increase the resource consumption of the skill.

Just like every other Descendant, Luna has one passive ability and four active abilities.

Passionate Stage is Luna’s second active skill, and the first of the three buffing skills. At the base, this skill will increase the Skill Power of Luna and her allies. However, like her other skills, this one will become even more effective when combined with Stage Presence. This will not only improve the Skill Power increase, it will also improve the critical hit rate of skills, allowing Luna to prime powerful casters like Viessa for a massive hit.

The second buffing skill in Luna’s toolkit, Relaxing Act, is primarily restorative in nature. This skill will allow Luna and her allies to recover MP. While this sounds highly useful in practice, this will work best when communicating frequently with teammates, as the current HUD does not show the MP levels of teammates. Timing it with the rhythm of Stage Presence will boost the MP recovery, but it will also add a modifier which reduces skill cost, enabling the party to replenish their MP stores.

The fourth and final skill available to Luna is Delightful Stage. It can be considered a counterpart to Relaxing Act, increasing the Inspiration Gauge at the cost of MP. Even better, it will reduce the skill cooldown for Luna and other nearby Descendants. This one is especially important to time right with Stage Presence, as doing so will completely reset the cooldowns of all skills, enabling the most powerful abilities to be used more frequently.

Luna Synergizes Best With Caster Descendants

Relaxing Act Skill Can Restore Casters MP

As a support character with plenty of versatility, Luna will of course synergize well with all Descendants. After all, every Descendant can benefit from MP restoration, cooldown resets, and damage increases. However, some Descendants will benefit more than others.

Luna’s Relaxing Act skill restores MP, which makes it an obvious choice topair with caster characterslike Blair, Freyna, and Viessa. With proper timing of this skill, the party may not need to use their weapons at all. The skill cost reduction of an enhanced Relaxing Act will only reduce the need for weapons further.

New The First Descendant Update Finally Introduces Luna, New Bosses & Ultimate Valby

The First Descendant introduces the first of its major content updates by introducing players to Luna, Ultimate Valby and so much more.

Delightful Stage is also incredibly useful for caster characters, butit is most useful for characters with long cooldownson their skills, like Enzo or Yujin. On the other hand, this skill is much less useful for characters who already have short cooldowns, like Gley, Bunny, and Ajax. Either way, Relaxing Act and Delightful Stage will complement each other exceptionally well, combining to give the party essentially free rein to use their skills.

Best Modules For Luna Will Take Advantage Of Her Buffing Abilities

Passionate Sponsor, Technique Manual, Nimble Footsteps And Noise Surge

While the best builds for Luna will likely be discovered soon, there is already exceptional promise for modules and gear effects which boost skill power. Beyond more common modules which only increase skill power, there are others to consider. The most interesting ones to consider, and the ones which will suit Luna’s abilities the best, are hard-to-find ultimate modules.

The update which added Luna also added two unique modules just for this new Descendant.

Another option to consider is the Technique Manual module, available from the “Abandoned Zone” mission in the Echo Swamp. This module will deal additional damage based on a percentage of Luna’s HP whenever a skill attack is landed. That meansthis ability will activate whenever Luna uses a skill attack, which should be as often as possible.

The update which added Luna also added two unique modules just for this new Descendant, so they will likely be worth collecting to try out. The Nimble Footsteps module will enhance Luna’s buffing abilities, making her move faster and giving her skills a larger range. On the other side of the spectrum is Noise Surge, which will unleash an explosive attack whenever a note is performed at the right moment. Of the two,Nimble Footsteps will likely be the better choice for Luna, and is likely to be universally useful for all Luna builds inThe First Descendant.
