The Boysshowrunner and executive producer Eric Kripke reveals that filming will begin very soon. After ashocking ending toThe Boysseason 4, which leaves the fate of several main characters in question, there is only one installment left of Prime Video’s Emmy-nominated superhero satire. Even though audiences will likely first catch up with the young adult spinoffGen V,the main series is looking to get to work very soon.
According toCollider, while speaking at a For Your Consideration event focused on the Prime Video hit, Kripke revealed: “We start shooting a week from Monday. That’s less than two weeks.” The veteran showrunner, who also worked on dramas likeSupernaturalandTimeless, also reflected on the superhero satire coming to an end:

“I’m fortunate, in that I get to maintain my denial for quite a while because I’m so busy right now… Just the amount of work, it’s so busy that I think somewhere in the middle of the season, it’s gonna hit me, and hit me really emotionally. I’ve been willfully denying it. It hasn’t totally sunk in. That will be hard.”
What Kripke’s Update Means For The Boys
Casting May Likely Be Revealed Soon
The Boysseason 5will have to answer all the various questions stemming from the previous installment, whether it’s shedding light on the new dark and deadly side of Butcher (Karl Urban) or showcasing the strengthened team-up between Homelander (Antony Starr) and Sister Sage (Susan Heyward). But before the fan-favorite adaptation can reveal too much in terms of specific plot points, there will be a long filming process. Urban previously mentioned thatseason 5 wouldn’t be out until 2026.
The Boysseason 5 has already announced the casting ofHamiltonactor Daveed Diggs, though character details are under wraps.
The extended absence makes sense for a few reasons. The first is thatThe Boys, an adaptation of the gory comics by Garth Ennis, is a VFX-heavy series. The second is thatGen Vseason 2is on track to release in 2025and may feature at least some crossover between the two worlds. Still, the latest update means that morecasting updates and photos from the set are not too far behind.
