Summary

The Acolyteis officially not being renewed for a second season, markingStar Wars’very first Disney Plus cancelation. The Acolyteis the most recent addition toStar Warsmovies and TV shows, and to say its reception was tumultuous would be a massive understatement. While many liked the show for a number of reasons, including its exploration ofthe High Republic Eraand its brand-new characters (especially Qimir/the Stranger),The Acolytealso faced considerable backlash before the show even premiered.

In fact,The Acolyte’scontroversiesrivaled those of theStar Warssequel trilogy, with many viewers taking to social media after the release of each episode to voice their opinions. However, while few would argue thatThe Acolyteis one ofStar Wars’best TV shows, it’s nevertheless shocking that the show has been canceled. Not only does this mean the very firstStar WarsDisney Plus cancelation, but it also means so many questions will never be answered, and so many stories will never be explored.

5 Things I Loved About The Acolyte Finale (& 5 Things I Really Hated)

Although there was plenty to love about The Acolyte’s finale, I had very mixed feelings about the episode; here are 5 things I loved and 5 I hated.

Even The Book Of Boba Fett Hasn’t Officially Been Canceled

Canceling a show is no small decision, and DisneyStar Warshas made that abundantly clear. In fact, even other Disney PlusStar Warsshows that haven’t performed all that well have not been officially canceled. The Book of Boba Fettis a great example of this.

Sadly, despite Boba Fett being a very beloved character in the franchise who has played a pivotal role throughouttheStar Warstimeline,The Book of Boba Fettwas not well-received. Many found the plot a bit boring, and the story of Boba Fett somehow surviving the events ofReturn of the Jediwas a hard sell, especially in light ofStar Wars’more recent pattern of bringing back characters who were almost certainly dead. Yet,The Book of Boba Fetthasn’t been officially canceled.

The Book of Boba Fettseems unlikely to happen, given the reception to the show and the lack of a season 2 announcement, but clearly,Star Warsisn’t yet ready to make that announcement. This makes the decision to cancelThe Acolytestand out all the more. In fact, this is a particularly surprising comparison in light of how much more recentlyThe Acolytewas released.

The Acolyte’s Cancelation Leaves So Many Stories Untold

In addition to this being a surprising move onStar Wars’part, this cancelation really does mean the end to so many interesting stories. WhileThe Acolytewas certainly controversial, the show did introduce a number of fascinating concepts and storylines, andThe Acolytefinalemade it seem very likely that answers would be given in a second season. In fact, the finale saw a brilliantly creepy cameo from Sith Lord Darth Plagueis and revealed that Osha was committing to joining the dark side and training alongside Qimir (with whom she also seemed to be romantically linked).

Moreover, the finale introduced the notion that Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh and Master Yoda collaborated on a cover-up to protect the Jedi Order. Unfortunately, it seems none of these stories will be explored further. Instead,Star Warshas officially canceledThe Acolyte, marking the franchise’s very first Disney Plus cancelation, and will presumably be moving on to other stories.
