Terrifier 4director Damien Leone has promised a “sweet spot” between a strong story and grisly gore in the upcoming sequel after critiques about both.Reviews forTerrifier 3have continued the franchise’s tradition of being well-received by critics and audiences alike, with its $89.8 million box office against a $2 million budget proving the franchise a success. The series is best known for its shocking, gory kills from slasher villain Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton), but also for a complex story that humanizes long-standing characters like Sienna Shaw (Lauren LaVera).

Now,Leonehas responded to criticism about the slasher franchise, promising to balance both the story and gore inTerrifier 4. His post shows him responding to someone critiquing the movies for having too much story focus, but the director also addresses those who say it’s too heavy on its blood-soaked kills. He hopes to find a “sweet spot” between both aspects of the franchise in the next installment, appeasing critics on both sides of the aisle. Check out what Leone had to say below:

Art the Clown looking surprised

Man, these guys aren’t making it easy for me are they? It’s either “Terrifier has absolutely no plot and is just mindless gore” or “Terrifier has too much plot and not enough gore”…..Gosh darn it people I’ll find that sweet spot in T4 if it kills me!

What Leone’s Statement About Story & Gore Means For Terrifier 4

The Series Can Balance Out Its Strengths

Terrifier 3endedwithSienna’s cousin Gabbie (Antonella Rose) falling into a portal to Hellalongside the sword used to defeat Art in the second movie. As for the clown, he hides on a city bus, still free as the series' main hero promises to find and rescue her cousin. This sets the stage for a very story-heavy fourth installment that plays into the franchise’s supernatural themes more readily, something that could distract from the gory kills if Leone isn’t careful. But, with the core clown still free, there’s bound to be more memorable kills in the next entry.

The Key To Terrifier 4 & Art’s Defeat May Already Be Known Thanks To A Completely Different Franchise

The Terrifier franchise may come to a head in Terrifier 4, and another long-standing franchise could secretly reveal how Art can be defeated.

Finding a balance between the story and gore won’t be easy, however, with the kills in the third movie getting even more horrifying than the previous two. This sets a precedent for even wilder kills going forward, but, to find balance, they’ll also have to be relevant toTerrifier 4’s story. While it’s unclear how Leone will develop the next movie’s story to ensure both ideals of the franchise are considered, it sounds like Art will be racking up a very gore-heavy body count as Sienna continues hunting for her cousin.

Our Take On Leone Finding Balance In Terrifier 4

The Story & Gore Can Still Compliment One Another

So far, the slasher franchise has done a good job at balancing the story with its gory kills, offering an intriguing lore surrounding Art’s many vicious killings. While it’s understandable why some would want the focus to be more attuned to either the plot or the killings, they work together to create a memorable, continuous storyline justifying each other’s existences. Since Leone is currently working onTerrifier 4, it seems like he’s already laid the groundwork for a perfect balance between the movies' two attributes.
