9Sunny’s Subconscious Helps Her Recall Her Origins & Masa’s Purpose
Remembering Her Past Helps Her Understand Why She Was Sent To Suzie
Sunny’s subconscious is presented more as a state of limbo, where Sunny must go through several stages of a game show to determine her fate. Initially, the game only seems to have one rule:after each round, the audience votes on whether Sunny should wipe her memory. In the game’s first stage, Sunny is forced to confront some mistakes from her recent past. The game helps her realize that a baby bird died because she, for her selfish reasons, wanted to understand how Suzie felt when she lost her child.
Since all evidence points towards Sunny’s disobedience of her code, the verdict of the first round is that she should wipe her memory.

She also learns that, after she led Mixxy and Suzie to the man from the adult shop, the man was beaten up by goons from the yakuza. Sunny feels even more guilty about her actions when she sees a video of her hitting Mixxy for no reason and falsely believing she was protecting Suzie from her. Since all evidence points towards Sunny’s disobedience of her code, the verdict of the first round is that she should wipe her memory. However, things take a complex turn when Sunny goes further back in time to her origins and relationship with Masa.

8Sunny Learns Her Charging Outlet Was Rigged
Tanaka Was Bugging The Homebots
A series of videos in the game show help Sunny recall why she was created in the first place. They reveal that after living as a Hikikomori for years and finding peace after working with his first homebot, Masa realized his true purpose was not to help robots become more human. It was touse the robots as vessels to help humans rediscover their own sense of humanity. He worked tirelessly on the robots and even paired them with one another to enhance their understanding of emotions.
Due to the bugging, the robots started exhibiting strange, extreme behaviors.

He and his company also ran a simulation where one of the robots was paired with a man, Asahi, who spent his time in complete isolation. However, just by being around his homebot, Asahi, too, started breaking his walls of isolation before finally opening to human connection. Asahi’s recovery proved that the robots were finally achieving what Masa wanted them to.
To Sunny’s surprise, one video reveals that Masa’s employee, Tanaka, was rigging the charging points of the bots and bugging their systems. Due to this bugging, the robots started exhibiting strange behaviors. While these behaviors initially went unnoticed, things became terrifying after one confrontation between two robots.

7Sunny Remembers How Homebot #17 Killed Asahi
Asahi Died Saving His Robot Friend
Another video reveals that two homebots were involved in an ugly fight when one bot accused the other of being unfaithful to him. During the confrontation, one bot, who was accusing the other, even became aggressive to the point where he started hitting the other with a stool. To protect the homebot who helped him break free from his loneliness,Asahi jumped between the two robots and took several hits before dying. This event shook Masa and the entire ImaTech company because they never realized that the bots could be capable of murder.
6Masa Destroyed Homebot #17
Masa Seems To Blame Himself For What Happened
After learning about the events that led to Asahi’s death, Masa decides to bury all the evidence by first killing the homebot who murdered Asahi. He then uses the Dark Manual’s code to wipe Sunny’s memory, ensuring no one outside the company learns about what happened. Masa also realizes that homebot #17, the one who killed Asahi, could be a threat to every other human it interacts with. Therefore, to avoid more casualties, Masa chooses to take him out before he causes more harm.
During the dental treatment, homebot #17 had attacked the dentist, believing that he was hurting the patient.
A video also reveals that Masa and his teamcould have prevented Asahi’s death if they had not ignored early warnings. While Asahi was warming up to one bot in one simulation, a man was getting dental treatment from a dentist bot in another. During the dental treatment, homebot #17 attacked the dentist, believing that he was hurting the patient. This incident was enough to highlight that humans were not safe around aggressive bots like homebot #17, but these initial signs were ignored.
5Masa Knew The Yakuza Were Following Him
Masa’s Creations Were Garnering The Wrong Kind Of Attention
Although Masa wanted the robots to be tools that could help humans overcome their loneliness, they turned into murderous instruments of tragedy that could easily be misused by someone. To Masa’s dismay, the yakuza started hunting him down after learning that the homebots were capable of killing humans. While the yakuza’s purpose remains unknown, they likely wanted access to Masa’sDark Manualto be able to use homebots to carry out their dirty deeds. Realizing the dangers of his creation, Masa took some drastic measures before he went missing.

Together they make “San Ni,” explaining where Sunny’s name comes from. The revelation of her past helps Sunny learn that, deep inside, she has always known about everything that happened at Masa’s company and all the events that led to his disappearance. Masa had to wipe her memory the first time around because she was the only homebot, other than #17, at the crime scene of Asahi’s murder.
3Masa Reveals Why He Covered Up For Asahi’s Murder
Masa Was Too Afraid Of The Consequences
Masa understands that if the word about a homebot killing a human gets out in the world, many would want their hands on theDark Manual. Therefore,to ensure his technology was not misused by the Yakuza, he decided to bury all evidence surrounding Asahi’s death. At the same time, however, he also knew that his wife, Suzie, would need a friend like Sunny if something ever happened to him. Owing to this, he decided to keep Sunny, wipe her memory clean, and fix her bugs before giving her to Hiromasa.
2Sunny Finally Understands Why She Changed After Meeting Hime
Hime Convinces Sunny She Isn’t As Innocent As She Thinks
In the game show’s final stage, Sunny confronts Hime, who appears as another projection of her mind.
