Even Kids Know Jedi Cut Off Arms…
Neel Went Right For Wim’s Arm In Their “Lightsaber” Fight
In episode 1 ofSkeleton Crew, major characters Neel and Wim pull out fake lightsaber hilts and, like children in real life, begin staging a lightsaber battle with one another. Hilariously,Neel knows to go right for Wim’s arm, pretending to cut it off. This is an obvious callback to Obi-Wan’s famous scene inA New Hope, in which he cuts off Ponda Baba’s arm in the Mos Eisley Cantina, but it also proves that Jedi and Sith cutting off someone’s hand and/or arm has become so well-known that children are incorporating it into their imaginary play.
Jedi and Sith cutting off someone’s hand and/or arm has become so well-known that children are incorporating it into their imaginary play.

This also could be played off as simply a funny Easter egg, but it’s clearly much more than that. Wim seems downright obsessed with the Jedi, constantly talking and reading about them. This suggests he is well aware of how common this attack is among the Jedi and the Sith.

Cutting Off Hands & Arms Has Become A Star Wars Tradition
Numerous Characters Have Now Lost Their Arms And Hands
Remarkably, there have been 16Star Warscharacters who lost their hands or arms. Luke Skywalker’s hand was cut off by Darth Vader inThe Empire Strikes Back, and he repaid the favor inReturn of the Jedi. TheStar Warsprequel trilogy revealed thatLuke cutting off Vader’s hand marked the third time Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader lost a hand. He also had his hand cut off by Count Dooku inStar Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clonesand had all his remaining flesh limbs cut off by Obi-Wan inStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.
This was also a go-to move for Anakin, who cut off Count Dooku’s hands inRevenge of the Sithand Mace Windu’s arm in the same movie. Even outside the Skywalkers, this is a popular move for Jedi and Sith alike. As a strategy, this makes a fair bit of sense. It takes ‘disarming’ an opponent to a new level, and in lightsaber battles, few things could be more effective.Star Wars: Skeleton Crewhas added to this tradition in a precious way that also revealed how significant this tradition has become inStar Wars.

The first two episodes ofStar Wars: Skeleton Creware now streaming on Disney+.
