Marvel is gearing up for an otherworldly crossover that throws the AmazingSpider-Managainst the monstrous power ofGodzilla. Set in the 1980s, this version of Peter Parker is still swinging around in his vintage black suit, unaware of its alien nature. However, this won’t be the only alien creature Godzilla has faced before. That said, the symbiote possesses a corrupting ability that neither Spider-Man nor Godzilla are prepared for.
Godzilla vs. Spider-Man#1– written by Joe Kelly, with art by Nick Bradshaw – is thenext installment of theGodzilla vs. Marvelminiseries, in which Godzilla threatens to destroy everything Spider-Man has ever foughtforwhile Parker learns how to navigate his new black suit.

Having just returned from the chaos of1984’s Secret Wars event, Spider-Man has picked up a new symbiotic companion; as Marvel know, Venom and Peter eventually part ways, leading to the christening of Eddie Brock as the first Venom. However, Godzilla’s atomic devastation may attract Venom long before Eddie gets the chance.
Godzilla Has Fought Aliens Before, But Nothing Like Marvel’s Venom
How Godzilla’s Previous Enemies Compare To The Symbiote
In an interview with Godzilla.com, the crossover’s writerJoe Kelly talked about his ongoing love for Godzillaand why he chose to set the series during Spider-Man’s black suit era:
“Godzilla has been haunted by extraterrestrial creatures and cultures since the early days. Even though Spider-Man does not yet know that his black suit is more than just some cool, outer space threads, it’s an alien life form - and that is Godzilla bait! Seems like a great excuse to get Spider-Man and Godzilla together!”

Joe Kelly isn’t kidding. In 1964, Godzilla faced his first and longest-running alien threat: King Ghidorah. Since then, the King of the Monsters has faced numerous other equally extra-terrestrial threats, such as Gigan, the Xiliens, and the familiar-looking SpaceGodzilla. While the King of Kaiju may dominate the monsters of Earth, these space-faring threats have repeatedly challenged Godzilla’s rulein their attempts to subjugate Earth.
Godzilla vs Avengers Promises To Upend The Marvel Universe With Special First Look
The Avengers are going head to head with Godzilla, and fans don’t have to wait another minute for the first look at this battle of comic book titans!
So far, Godzilla has prevailed over all his otherworldly challengers, but he has never faced something as simple but ferocious as Venom. The Klyntar were originally created toconsume all existence into the primordial void by bonding with organic lifeforms to spread their influence.Nearly impervious, the symbiotes are only weak to extreme sound and heat, although these are psychosomatic faults inherited from All-Black. Once bonded, a symbiote feeds on and exasperates its host’s mind, often emboldening a host’s most aggressive traits. For Spider-Man and the rest of New York,a Venomized Godzillawould be its apocalyptic event.

The Godzilla Franchise Already Has An Alien Godzilla
Venomized Godzilla Is The Next Step
Despite Godzilla’s overwhelming atomic power, which would incinerate Venom is one blast, the King’s greatest weakness is his grand size. Without their hosts, symbiotes are amorphous creatures who are difficult to wrangle; they can squeeze into and infect most anything, including the internet. While there’s a strong chance that Venom doesn’t have the strength to engulf Godzilla from the outside, there is plenty of room for Venom to invade and spread its power inside the Kaiju. As was first seen withVenom’s son Carnage, symbiotes can bond inside a person’s body, molding both beings’ DNA together.
If Venom were to use a similar tactic, the symbiote wouldn’t just control Godzilla, it would become Godzilla.

If Venom were to use a similar tactic, the symbiote wouldn’t just control Godzilla, it would become Godzilla. Funnily enough, the previously mentioned SpaceGodzilla is built on a similar concept. In Toho Pictures’Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994),SpaceGodzilla is said to have formed when Godzilla’s DNA entered a black hole and emerged later from a white hole. Like the symbiotes, SpaceGodzilla was birthed in a cosmic void as a warped version of its genetic template.Venom assimilating Godzillafrom the inside isn’t all that far fetched when looking back at the kaiju’s history of villains.
Marvel Has Already Teased A Venomized Godzilla Before – Now It’s Time To Make It Really Happen
Spider-Man Has No Chance Against A Venom / Godzilla Fusion
Godzilla vs. Spider-Manwon’t be the first time Marvel has played around with this Venomized Godzilla idea either. In 2024, Marvel released a collection ofGodzilla-themed variant coversto celebrate the reprint ofGodzilla #1 Facsimile Edition. These 21 crossover covers feature iterations of Godzilla unleashing ungodly destruction against some of Marvel’s favorite heroes in villains. In Dave Wachter’s variant cover for 2024’sVenom #37,Peter Parker and Miles Morales come head-to-head with a towering, reptilian, Venom as the surrounding city is consumed by fiery smoke. Now, readers are finally getting a chance to see the crossover in action.
Ahead of Their MCU Debut, the Fantastic Four Are Ready to Take on Godzilla
Godzilla will soon return to stomp his way through the Marvel Universe, and his first targets are none other than the Fantastic Four!
As we already know fromEarth-616’s Spider-Man, Peter and the Venom symbiote won’t last long in this crossover comic. Spider-Man is far too weak-willed and emotionally turbulent to serve as Venom’s host, buta creature as indomitably powerful as Godzilla has everything the symbiote could want. The combined creature will become a devastating power that neither Godzilla nor Venom have experienced before.Godzillahas a long history facing alien forces, but the King of Monsters isn’t ready for this classicSpider-Manalien foe.
