Summary
Marvel’sSpider-Manhas one of the most prolific rogues galleries in comic book history, but one sterling piece of fan art has just bolstered their ranks even further, in a display that should get Marvel’s attention. The Webslinger has some of the greatest villains ever, and talented artist Tom Hoskisson has just added a few of his own in this brilliant fan art.
Hoskisson shared his art on Instagram, revealing several original villain designs that fit perfectly in among Spider-Man’s most iconic foes. While some are twisted takes on existing characters, others are entirely new creations, and all of them would be wonderful additions to the world ofSpider-Mancomics.

These new villains arethe Custodians, Conrad Storm, Scratch, Caroline Nash, Madame Leech, and Cupid.Characters like Scratch and Cupid fit in pretty well with Spider-Man’s existing rogues. Scratch seems like a demented thief and Cupid, surprisingly, is a member of the TVA.

These new villain designs create a much greater variety than even Spider-Man’s traditional rogues.
Tom Hoskisson’s newSpider-Manrogues are representative of the outstanding dimension of creativity that fan artists bring to comic book culture. His creations are every bit Marvel Comics quality, and would fit seamlessly into the world of the Webslinger. Not every Spider-Man villainhas gone on to have a historic career, but it’s safe to say that his rogues gallery isrivaled only by his DC counterpart, Batman, so it ishigh praise to suggest that any fan creation would be right at home in the midst of Peter Parker’s greatest villains.

The villains that Spider-Man usually goes up against are often mad scientists or mobsters who’ve gained power, like Doctor Octopus and Hammerhead, with a few exceptions, such as Venom and Carnage. These new villain designs create a much greater variety than even Spider-Man’s traditional rogues, including twisted versions of former allies, a TVA agent, a thief, an inventor, and a giant cleanup machine. The last one seems the most inventive, pitting Spider-Man against large robots called the Custodians, whose job, judging from the name, is to clean things up, including spiders.
Take Note, Marvel
Spider-Man has amazing villains, but as the years go on, there’s no reason why he can’t have a few more introduced.
Certainly, Tom Hoskisson’s two best villain designs are Conrad Storm and Madame Leech. Conrad is especially interesting, as he’s wearing a Fantastic Four suit, and standing on a Fantastic Four symbol, but his letter says 5. Whether he is a missing Storm sibling, or from an alternate dimension, remains open to fan interpretation. Madame Leech, meanwhile, is an amazing, dark twist on Madame Web, who quickly drew comparisons from die-hard readers to Shathra, an evil character who tried to once consume the entire Spider-Verse.

All of that is to say, Spider-Man has amazing villains, but as the years go on, there’s no reason why he can’t have a few more introduced. Madame Leech especially seems like she has the most potential for Marvel to adopt her. Instead of a kindly old woman who helpsguide the Spider-Men through the Multiverse, Madame Leech could try to drain them of their powers, leaving them as useless husks. She’s an honestly terrifying design, andone that Marvel absolutely should not pass up for a futureSpider-Manstory.
