Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Versegets a crucial update from one of the new big players in the animatedMarvelfranchise. Ever since the thrilling conclusion toSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the world has patiently been waiting fortheSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verserelease, which will round out Miles Morales' trilogy. While the threequel has yet to land on Sony Pictures' release schedule again, the final installment is definitely on its way.
In a new interview for his filmUnstoppableon Prime Video,ScreenRant’sLiam Crowley asked Jharrel Jerome if he had started his voice recording forSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which still doesn’t have a release date. While Jerome, who debuted as Miles G. Morales inSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, hasn’t begun his work yet, the actor stressed that he is looking forward to reprising the role, but that he is"as much in the dark as you,“sharing the following update:

Jharrel Jerome: I haven’t, but I also can’t really say so much more because, you know, that’s such a tight-knit ship. I don’t even know much. I’m as much in the dark as you, but I’m excited to get back into it and see what they’re thinking, especially involving my character. That was such a badass twist to the last one.
What Jharrel Jerome’s Comments Mean For Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse
Even though Jerome may not have started recording his lines as the Prowler of Earth-42,this doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad forSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verseand its pending release. It has been made crystal clear sinceSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Versethat the animation process for this particular franchise takes an extensive amount of time and effort to produce. While it is extremely beneficial to have a unique animation style, it also comes with its own obstacles, as it takes longer than other animation formats.
While the animation production is still a work in progress,theSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Versecastare able to record their respective scenes whenever suitable,as they aren’t required to all do it together or at the same time. The creative team may simply have Jerome for later on to come in and record all of his dialogue. It wouldn’t be shocking if Jerome is at least in the recording booth by Q1 or Q2 of 2025 at this point.

Why Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Is Taking So Long
Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Versewas previously set for a August 16, 2025 release date, which would’ve seen the trilogy’s finale debut less than a year afterSpider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, since the second installment in the series came out in June 2023. However, in July 2023,Beyond The Spider-Verse’s release date was removed from Sony’s release calendar and rendered indefinite - something that seemed to be at least in part a reaction to the then-ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which appeared to complicate the production process for the project.
However, as of December 2024, there’s still been no official word given on when to expectSpider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, despite both of these strikes having come to a conclusion some time ago. While reports emerged in September 2024 that the movie would be delayed until 2027 at earliest due to creative overhauls planned for the release, producer and writer Christopher Miller debunked this, stating onXthat, “Nothing has been scrapped. The reels are coming along nicely.”
As such, it appears the longer production time forSpider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verseis to some degree simply a reflection of the time the project requires, as the intricacies of its eye-catching art style alone warrants a significant amount of time in order to continue the high standard of quality set by previous installments. WithAcross The Spider-Versereleasing 5 years after the originalSpider-Man: Into The Spider-Verseitself, it’s clear this kind of undertaking can be a time-consuming one, and this is likely doubly the case when it comes to building a satisfying conclusion for such an iconic series.
Our Take On Jharrel Jerome’s Comments
From Jerome’s comments aboutSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,there will be a lot to look forward to with Miles' third and final installment. It’s clear that the production team is looking to raise the bar, especially with an ambiguous title likeSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which has led to many thinking that this will be a split animated/live-action film for the beloved Spider-Man property. Hopefully, as 2024 closes out, 2025 will have more exciting updates forSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
