However, Thor doesn’t want an heir, and if the God of Thunder’s fated day arrives, then his son’s very existence might throw Asgard into chaos.
With Thor’s death incomingin a future issue ofTheImmortal Thorby Al Ewing and Jan Bazaldua, it seems extremely likely that his alternate-universe son Magni is about to replace him.
Prophesies and omens of Thor’s death have followed him throughout the series, with Odin going as faras to recruit Skurgeto “steal” Thor’s destiny. However, Thor has been determined to see his own fate through, however dark it may be. The complication he didn’t expect was that he now has an heir to succeed him when he dies, ashe never wanted an official successor.
Thor’s Son Magni Is Likely to Be His Replacement When the God of Thunder Dies
And Thor Is Dying Sooner Rather than Later…
Magni hails from the dystopian timeline of “The Reigning,“an alternate timeline introduced in the final act of Dan Jurgens’ early-2000s Thor run where Thor and Enchantress married. The Thor of this timeline had lost his humanity, conquering Earth in the name of authoritarian protectionism. As such, he also lost his “worthiness,” making him unable to wield Mjölnir. Unexpectedly, it was Magni who instead proved worthy, and it took Magni’s near-death to make Thor regret what he had done and erase his timeline, and Magni, seemingly forever.
Forget Thor! Marvel Has Other Heroes Who Are Worthy of Lifting Mjolnir
Thor is far from the only Marvel hero, or villain, to have been found worthy to wield the mighty Mjolnir and the powers of the God of Thunder.
However, the Enchantress of Marvel’s main timeline had other plans. In Ewing and Bazaldua’sTheImmortal Thor#17, she guilt-tripped Thor into resurrecting who he thought would be her dead son Iric, but she instead brought back Magni. With Thor about to die, readers should be able to put two and two together and realize that Magni is about to become the new God of Thunder - unless someone stops Thor’s death and/or Magni’s rise, that is.
Magni’s Position as Thor’s Possible Successor Isn’t Safe Either

In fact, Enchantress brought Magni back for this exact reason, but what she didn’t predict was that he would be a hero that she couldn’t manipulate. If she had her original way, then Thor would die andMagni would rule as her puppet, but Thor’s son is too wise for that. Now, Enchantress knows that Magni’s own inheritance might fall to her, but for that to happen, she would have to kill her own son. So, even asThoris set to die, his son might be in just as much danger, just as he’s about to ascend to the throne.

Associated with the mythical realm of Asgard, Thor is a Marvel Comics hero who channels the power of thunder to slay their foes.
