Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh reprises her iconic role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou inStar Trek: Section 31. Introduced inStar Trek: Discovery,Emperor Georgiou is the former despotic ruler of theTerran Empire in the Mirror Universewho now resides inStar Trek’s Prime Universe. InStar Trek: Discoveryseason 3,Georgiou was deemed as sufficiently changed from her evil waysby the Guardian of Forever (Paul Guilfoyle), and Philippa was sent away from the 32nd century to a point in the past where the Prime and Mirror Universes were still aligned. It seems Georgiou arrives inStar Trek’s 24th century inSection 31.
Georgiou is highly intelligent and possesses formidable combat skills.
Emperor Georgiou may no longer be the ruthless and murderous fascist she was when she was the absolute ruler of the Terran Empire, butGeorgiou is still one of the most dangerous individuals in the universe. Star Trek: Section 31 will tell the origin of how Philippa Georgiou became Emperor in the Mirror Universe, something Star Trek hasn’t done before.
Star Trek: Section 31looks to continue Emperor Georgiou’s redemption story, juxtaposed with the details of how the young Philippa Georgiou (Miku Martineau) rose to become Emperor of the Terrans. Since Section 31 already has a team in thenew Star Trekmovie, and Georgiou appears to be a misfit among misfits who don’t trust her but need the Emperor’s stills all the same.

Garrett was even honored with a statue, dubbed ‘The Red Lady’, on M’Talas Prime inStar Trek: Picardseason 3.

Omari Hardwick playsAlok, Section 31’s team leader.Apparently human, Alok is not Starfleet material because of his mental issues and darker view of the universe, thus he joined Section 31. It’s Alok who assembles Section 31’s team for the movie’s main mission. However, Alok knows all about who Emperor Georgiou is, and he doesn’t trust Philippa in the slightest. Yet Alok and Section 31 evidently need Georgiou to accomplish its mission.
4Quasi
Played by Sam Richardson
Sam Ricardson playsQuasi, who isSection 31’s physicist and also a shapeshifter.Quasi is a Chameloid, a race of changelings, which makes him ideal for Section 31 as a spy and infiltrator. Quasi’s knowledge of physics would also deem him Section 31’s resident Science Officer. Quasi, like the rest of Section 31, has no reason to trust Emperor Georgiou, but he’s also a team player fighting for the cause.

Quasi is onlythe second Chameloid seen inStar Trekcanon.Chameloids are different shapeshifters from the Changelingsintroduced inStar Trek: Deep Space Nine. The original Chameloid was Martia, played by Iman, the criminal prisoner and would-be assassin of Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) inStar Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. One of the exciting aspects ofStar Trek: Section 31is seeing a new Chameloid in action, and finding out more about Quasi’s shapeshifting people.
3Fuzz
Played by Sven Ruygrok
One ofStar Trek: Section 31’s mystery characters is Sven Ruygrok’s Fuzz. With his pointed ears,Fuzz could be a Vulcan, but his emotional demeanor suggests he is a Romulan.Or, perhaps he is both. It’s unknown what function Fuzz serves in Section 31, but either Vulcan logic or a Romulan’s penchant for deceit and treachery are valuable assets to the black ops agency.
Romulans Stopped Being Star Trek Villains In TNG
Star Trek: The Next Generation acknowledged that not all Romulans were duplicitous villains decades before Star Trek: Picard.
If Fuzz is a Romulan, then one of his people working for Section 31 and protecting the Federation is extremely unusual, especially for the early 24th century.Romulans infiltrate Starfleet and wreak havoc across the FederationinStar Trek: Picard, but Fuzz would precede this by many decades. Fuzz is worth keeping an eye on, especially to see if he has any secret family ties to Vulcan Starfleet Officer Lt. Saavik (Kirstie Alley, Robin Curtis) or the traitor, Lt. Valeris (Kim Cattrall).
2Zeph
Played by Rob Kazinsky
Rob Kazinsky plays the armored warrior Zeph inStar Trek: Section 31. Despite his cybernetic enhancements, Zeph is evidently wearing a battle suit and isnot a member of the Borg Collective. This tracks since the Federation doesn’t encounter the Borg untilStar Trek: The Next Generation. Zeph is another Section 31 recruit who is unfit for Starfleet but found a home within the underground black ops division.Zeph is loyal to Alokand appears to be Section 31’s resident human in battle mech, ready to blow things up at a moment’s notice.
1Melle
Played by Humberly Gonzalez
Another puzzling member of Section 31 is Melle, the bald, bubblegum-blowing mystery woman played by Humberly Gonzalez.Melle’s bald appearance hints that she could be a Deltan, a sexually seductive race first seen inStar Trek: The Motion Picture. The original Deltan inStar TrekwasLieutenant Ilia (Persis Khambatta), the navigator of the USS Enterprise, and paramour of Captain Will Decker (Stephen Collins).
Deltans were also seen in the first episode ofStar Trek: Picardseason 2, “The Star Gazer,” as they opened diplomatic relations with Soji (Isa Briones) and the synthetics of Coppelius on Raritan IV.
As a Deltan, Lt. Ilia had to swear an oath of celibacy to join Starfleet, but it’s possible Melle did no such thing if she is even formally a part of Starfleet as a member of Section 31. It’s unclear what role Melle has in Section 31, but perhaps she is able to glean information from targets, turning the unwilling into the willing with her Deltan sexuality. Melle could finally reveal more about Deltans inStar Trek: Section 31,and she is certainly a character to keep an eye on.
