Scrubsseason 10 will need to deal with the mistakes made by the softly-rebootedMed Schoolrun, and returning showrunner Bill Lawrence’s comments suggest he is already considering how he can rectify the issues in the medical sitcom’s last season. After much speculation, theScrubsrevival has been given the green lightand will pick up the stories of the main cast around fifteen years after the show was canceled in 2010. Out ofall nine seasons ofScrubs, theMed Schoolepisodes are widely regarded as the worst, soLawrence has some redeeming to do.
Hopefully, every doctor inScrubswill return for the revival, which would avoid a big misstep taken byScrubsseason 9. However, Lawrence’s recent interview withTV Lineproves thattheScrubsseason 10 cast isn’t the only thing on the showrunner’s mind. That being said, the new and returningScrubsstars have also been addressed, although not confirmed. So, while there’s still a lot to work out about theScrubsrevival’s format, it’s all at least starting to take shape.

Scrubs Season 10 May Not Be Set At Season 9’s New Sacred Heart
Bill Lawrence has quietly teased a new setting for Scrubs' upcoming era
Scrubsseasons 1-8 were shot at the North Hollywood Medical Center. Sadly, the originalScrubsset was torn down in 2011, soScrubsseason 9 was forced to move away from the decommissioned hospital and into a traditional sound stage. Even within the world of the show, the old Sacred Heart Hospital was demolished and replaced by a newer building with the same name. So,it would have made sense forScrubsseason 10 to be set at the new Sacred Heart, but Bill Lawrence has cast doubt on that assumption.
“What I think [theScrubsrevival] will really be focusing on is a place where some of our core regulars still work as physicians.” - Bill Lawrence.

The showrunner’s statement makes no mention of a return to Sacred Heart. So, it’s very possible thatScrubsseason 10 will be set in an entirely new hospital, separating itself from the divisiveMed Schoolera. If it was Lawrence’s intention to return to the season 9 set, it surely would have been included in his declaration. Instead, he leaves things compellingly vague. While this could arguably open the door for a return to the original Sacred Heart via recreated sets,Bill Lawrence has already confirmed he won’t retconScrubsseason 9.
Why Moving Away From Sacred Heart For Scrubs Season 10 Isn’t A Big Deal
Although it was a completely new location,Scrubs: Med Schoolshowed an attachment to the name “Sacred Heart” by carrying the name over between hospitals. It was likely an attempt at consistency between the two shows but was ultimately unnecessary and may even have contributed to the season’s failings. Moving forward, there should be no requirement or obligation to have theScrubsrevival set at Sacred Heart. The old building adored by theScrubscharacters and the show’s fans has already been moved on from, so there’s no benefit to retaining the title.
The hospital’s name is unimportant, as what’s desired is seeing Zach Braff’s Dr. John “JD” Dorian, John C. McGinley’s Dr. Perry Cox, and the rest of the original cast and where they all are in their respective lives.

More importantly, setting theScrubsrevival at the new Sacred Heart implies fans will be tuning in to see the building, and that’s not true. The hospital’s name is unimportant, as what’s desired is seeing Zach Braff’s Dr. John “JD” Dorian, John C. McGinley’s Dr. Perry Cox, and the rest of the original cast and where they all are in their respective lives.Scrubsseason 10 will have plenty of challenges, so trying to hold on to the title of a long-gone building adds an extra obstacle that can be easily avoided by just leaving it in the past.
Lawrence’s Comments Also Worryingly Suggest An Incomplete Scrubs Reunion
Scrubs season 10’s cast could be short a few names
There is an interesting word choice in Lawrence’s statement about the potential new setting inScrubsseason 10, and it’s thatonly “some” of the original cast will be working there. Of course, he could just be speaking cautiously in case certain members of the original cast who are available to return opt out of the sitcom’s comeback. On the other hand, it also seems like a subtle way of tempering everyone’s expectations when it comes to who can and will show up.
14 Scrubs Characters Who Must Return In The Revival
Scrubs is filled with an array of hilarious characters who could return in season 10, continuing their stories from the sitcom’s original run.
Alternatively,Lawrence could be teasing aScrubsrevival set across more than one hospital. This could mean that although most of the original cast will come back for another run of episodes, the scope of the show will be much larger - like a more complex version of when Sarah Chalke’s Dr. Elliot Reid briefly worked at a different hospital inScrubsseason 5. This would be a fresh take on the sitcom’s formula, and also give Lawrence many more opportunities to introduce the newScrubscharacters he has discussed.
