“This season, we have an incredible sequence involving the character Arondir [Ismael Cruz Córdova] in the middle of the season, where he’s going to uncover a mystery that will lead him to a very surprising encounter with a pair of Ents. They are the shepherds of the forest, which are talking, walking trees.

“Ents are a thing that we know exist in Middle-earth but we’ve never seen a couple of Ents, including an Ent wife. So that’s an instance of a thing that ostensibly is not a moment fans have been anticipating, or expecting to happen on the way to the road to the Battle of Eregion.

“There’s a lot of moments in between that are hopefully just as delightful, or maybe even more surprising. But that’s the fun of it all, right? In Middle-earth, you never know what you’re gonna get.”

In addition to the first female Ent, the show will also be introducing the first Hill-troll, a creature by the name of Damrod who will be voiced by Benjamin Walker. It’s also now been confirmed thatThe Rings of Powerseason 2 will feature Barrow-wights. Barrow-wights were wraith-like monsters who did appear in Tolkien’sThe Fellowship of the Ring, but that section of Frodo’s story didn’t ultimately make it into Jackson’s adaptation. Season 2 is expected to feature an army of the beings, and they can be briefly seen in trailers in a misty, forested environment, surrounding Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and other key members of theRings of Power’s castof characters.

In terms of Middle-earth locations,The Rings of Powerseason 2 will be bringing the land of Rhûn to life on-screen for the first time. The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) will be traveling to this desert location in a sequence that the showrunners have previously likened to a “TolkenienLawrence of Arabia.” In addition to the above elements, it’s likely thatThe Rings of Powerseason 2 will have some other exciting surprises in store for viewers as well.
