A popular Tim Allen sitcom is coming toNetflixfor the first time. Allen will soon be returning to the world of multi-cam comedies, as he’ll star opposite Kat Dennings inthe upcoming showShifting Gears. The story centers on Matt (played by Allen), the stubborn and widowed owner of a car restoration shop who gets to reconnect with his daughter Riley (WandaVisionand2 Broke Girlsstar Dennings) as well as his grandchildren when he reluctantly allows her to move back in. It willpremiere on ABC on January 8 at 8 PM ET and stream the next day on Hulu.

Hailing from showrunner Michelle Nader, the cast also includes Seann William Scott, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins, and Barrett Margolis, with Brenda Song in a guest role. The project has received a lot of attention thanks to Allen’s long history with family sitcoms, which goes back decades. Now, his most enduring sitcom will be making its way to Netflix in just a matter of weeks.

Running on ABC from September 1991 to May 1999, for a total of eight seasons and 204 episodes, the serieswas created by the trio of Carmen Finestra, David McFadzean, and Matt Williams. The story focused on the Taylor Family, led by television host Tim Taylor (Allen) and his wife Jill (Patricia Richardson). The plots often focused on how the married couple raised their three sons, while also looking at Taylor’s popular show “Tool Time.”

Allen reprised the role of Tim Taylor for one episode of his2010s sitcomLast Man Standing, playing two roles.
