Like the chapters before it,Poppy Playtime Chapter 4includes VHS tapes hidden around the areas that the player visits, which can then be played on TVs that are usually nearby. These tapes can be easy to miss, but they’re worth taking the time to look for in each chapter, especially for anybody interested in the game’s lore, since those tapes are mostly from before the factory was shut down. This method offers glimpses into the events that led to the Hour of Joy and Playtime Co.’s downfall without revealing too much at once.

The VHS tapes alone inChapter 4 offer lore dropsthat change what was previously believed, given the limited information found in earlier chapters. The most interesting part of the tapes that can be found in Chapter 4 is that oneseems to confirm a theorythat’s been popular in the game’s community from the first chapter. However, it’s one of the easiest tapes to miss, as it has to be picked up during a chase sequence, and looking for a collectible is tough with the stress of being chased at the same time.

Poppy’s VHS Tape Confession

The Untitled Tape

There’s an untitled VHS tape hidden in a recess that’s passed during theDoey boss fightat the end of the chapter while he’s chasing the player. Unsurprisingly, that makes it tough to spot and pick up, meaning that missing it is likely, especially during a first playthrough of the chapter without prior knowledge of VHS locations. That tape ends up being what’s essentiallyan audio diary from Poppy, and it seems like she recorded it after a tragedy. That tragedy could be the Hour of Joy, but that’s not certain.

This Poppy Playtime Theory Completely Changes The Prototypes Motives

The Prototype is a mysterious figure throughout Poppy Playtime’s chapters, but his end goal could be benevolent according to this theory.

While venting about recent events and the procedures she’s undergone, Poppy drops a few key lines that appear to confirm a popular fan theory. She says that she wishes her dad had been there, as he always knew what to say, and thatthe company ran better when he was in charge. When it comes to a former head of the company with a child, there aren’t many options aside from Elliot Ludwig, and since he truly cared about children, it makes sense that he would run a toy company better than Leith, who seems obsessed with experiments.

Why It Makes Sense That Poppy Is Elliot’s Daughter

Early in the game, it’s revealed that Elliot had a family member — presumably a child — who died young, and he opened Playtime Co. to make children happy. However, it seems like he also had the ulterior motive of looking for a way to revive his child, as evidenced by the notes found in his office and reports of hisincreasingly eccentric behavior. With Poppy being among the earlier successful experiments, and the company’s most life-like doll, she would be the perfect vessel for Elliot’s child.

Now, with Poppy’s confession on a VHS tape in Chapter 4, it looks like that theory is true.

Poppy and Doey from Poppy Playtime Chapter 4

With Poppy receiving the focus of the first chapter and the information about Elliot’s past, it started to seem plausible thatPoppy could be his daughter revived as a doll. Now, with Poppy’s confession on a VHS tape in Chapter 4, it looks like that theory is true. With that in mind, the extra attention and obsession that the Prototype has towards Poppy at theend of Chapter 4makes it look like another popular theory could be true as well.

What Does This Mean For Future Chapters?

Has Elliot Been With Her For The Entire Time?

Poppy being Elliot’s daughter makes it look like the theory that the Prototype is Elliot could also be true, especially with his behavior in Chapter 4. At the end of the chapter, the Prototype explains that he’s built what sounds like a new case for Poppy, which could stem from Elliot’s desire to protect his child. Additionally, another tape mentions that the Doctor is working on a breakthrough with the Prototype, and that could be important for the future of the toys, particularly Poppy. It wouldn’t be surprising if he wanted a way to keep the toys alive longer.

“He’s A Monster”: Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 Fans Want To Remind You Who The True Villain Is

Poppy Playtime offers a lot of detailed lore and narrative, with many questioning who is to blame. But one player reminds us that Prototype is evil.

It’s tough to guess what the Prototype wanted the Doctor to figure out, but if he wants to keep Poppy in stasis in the meantime, then it’s likely that the breakthrough will impact the toys and is meant to be used for Poppy. Since Poppy is presumably Elliot’s daughter, it could also be a way for the Prototype to get revenge on the founders of the company by containing her indefinitely. Whatever the case may be, the revelations in upcoming chapters will surely be more shocking than those included inPoppy Playtime Chapter 4.
