While theirabilities and behaviorscan identify many ghosts in Phasmophobia and the speed at which they move during a hunt, some ghosts, like the Yurei, do not have specific in-hunt tells that can help players easily identify them. InPhasmophobia, players will generally locate the ghost’s room and use equipment to gather evidence. Every one of the 24 ghosts inPhasmophobiagives three unique pieces of evidence that can help identify them. Each ghost also has its own special abilities and hunting behaviors that can give them away.

The Yurei is an incrediblyevidence-dependent ghost inPhasmophobia, as, unlike most ghosts, nothing about its hunting behavior gives it away. In a typicalPhasmophobiacontract on Amateur, Intermediate, or Professional difficulty, the Yurei will give the following three pieces of evidence:Ghost Orbs, Freezing Temperatures, and D.O.T.S. Projector. However, on higher difficulty settings where evidence is concealed, or on certain Challenge modes, players will need to either hope the Yurei uses its ability or use its weakness against it.

How To Identify a Yurei From Its Abilities

Pay Attention To The Doors

Phasmophobia’sYurei has the unique ability toinstantlydrain 15% of a player’s sanity. This ability is tied to shutting nearby doors; if the Yurei uses its ability to drain sanity, a door will also shut. The Yurei can fully shut doors outside of hunts and ghost events. While all ghosts can technically do this, many will choose to open doors or slightly move them rather than shut them completely.

Additionally, when other ghosts shut a door outside a ghost event or hunt, there will not be an accompanying sanity drain effect. If a door slams nearby, players may want to check on their sanity. If it has gone down significantly, the ghost is likely a Yurei.

Phasmophobia: How to Use the DOTS Projector

The Phasmophobia DOTS Projector narrows down the primary location of the ghost by highlighting paranormal movement. It also helps with identification.

Unlike other ghosts inPhasmophobia, the Yurei can also shut exit doorsto the building outside of ghost events and hunts. No other ghost can do this. When checking for a Yurei, consider leaving exit doors open. If they swing shut but a hunt or ghost event does not begin, the ghost is almost certainly a Yurei.

In rooms without usable doors, such as hallways, open tents at Maple Lodge and Camp Woodwind, and some rooms in Brownstone High School, Sunny Meadows, and the Prison, the Yurei will never use its ability. It is possible to get incredibly unlucky and have a Yurei in one of these rooms. In cases like this, players will want to keep an eye on the exit doors, rule out all other ghosts via various test strategies, oruse the Yurei’s weakness to try and identify itinstead.

Strategies For Discovering a Yurei Without Evidence

Best Methods For Finding a Yurei

Apart from leaving doors open to test for a Yurei without evidence, players can also use the Yurei’s weakness to identify it. In the journal, the Yurei’s weakness is listed as the following:Smudging the Yurei’s place of death will trap it temporarily, reducing how much it wanders.

When attempting to rule out a Yurei, one strategy is to place motion sensors and salt at each exit point in the ghost’s room, thenuse smudge sticks or incenseto potentially trap the ghost there. Outside of ghost events, if it is a Yurei, the ghost cannot leave the room for 90 seconds. Assuming the Motion Sensors do not go off and the Salt outside the room remains undisturbed for about 90 seconds, players can comfortably select the Yurei as the ghost haunting the building.
