Summary

OriginalParks & Recreationstar Rashida Jones has a major demand before she will agree to a revival. Jones, who played Ann Perkins, worked alongside Amy Poehler, Paul Schneider, Aziz Ansari, and more respected stars for years before the show concluded. It ran from 2009 to 2015 and had a special release in 2020 during the pandemic. While the show is still beloved andParks & Rec’s many confusing timelinesstill draw laughter, the cast is unlikely to reunite for a revival in the near future.

While appearing on theBingeworthypodcast, Jones explained that there are some limitations to her hopes to rejoin the cast. She still adores her fellow cast members, andshe would love to appear again. Still, she will not agree to a revival unless there is a good reason to resurrect the franchise. She wants to wait for the right moment, and she wants a set idea to guide their way. We’re all still friends. We have a text chain. We talk all the time. We actually all really love each other. So, if there was a reason and a way that we would come back together, great! Doing it for the sake of doing it becausenobody has any new ideas? That I don’t want to do necessarily. But yeah, I think we’re all so downif the moment’s right and the reason is right, for sure.

Could Parks & Rec Come Back?

An officialParks & Recrevival would be challenging.

WithThe Office’s upcoming revivalon the horizon, other potential sitcom revivals are naturally earning consideration. After all, if networks and streaming platforms are looking to fill their catalogs with new episodes of a beloved show,it makes sense that they would receive renewed interest. Amy Poehler has made comments encouraging that discussion, as she has repeatedly assured viewers that she has retained her interest in rejoining the franchise.

Reviving the show would ruin its ending, however. AfterLeslie finally built two separate parks, the entire purpose of her foray into politics was satisfied. Her future adventures could receive future episodes, but it would take away from the satisfaction of seeing her goals achieved and her friends stepping into new phases of their own lives. Leslie has stepped up to potentially become the President, but showcasing that journey might take away from the wonder of it. Without a strong supporting cast, the show could also suffer.

As much as the cast loves the franchise, there may not be time for them to revisit it. Nick Offerman and Chris Pratt have both become massive stars, and Aubrey Plaza has taken a role in the Marvel Cinematic Univere’sAgatha All Along. Aziz Ansari has also become an acclaimed creator and may be similarly busy. The cast is incredibly sought after, which could make scheduling a new revival practically impossible.Parks & Recreationis still a beloved show, but it will need a plan in place and will need to expertly schedule production to satisfy all of its stars.
