One Pieceepisode #1116 was notably slower and less action-packed than some of the most recent episodes, but it still left a lot to look forward to forepisode #1117and beyond, regardless. The story’s interlude from Egghead Island continues to delight at every turn, and with how episode #1116 ended, that idea shows itself even further.
One Pieceepisode #1116 continued the anime’s interlude from Egghead Island with a look into what was going on with Cross Guild, the bounty hunter organization founded by Crocodile and Mihawk that Buggy accidentally became the public face of. Episode #1116 went into further detail on what Crocodile and Mihawk wanted to accomplish with Cross Guild, and in the middle of all that,Buggy made a definitive statement of what he wanted to do in the final stages ofOne Piece.

Everything that followed was also great to watch, and overall, episode #1116 was another great installment in the anime.

What Happened In One Piece Episode 1116?
Produced By Toei Animation; Directed By Eri Hyun
One Pieceepisode #1116, “Let’s Go Get It! Buggy’s Big Declaration,” opened with Buggy making a big show of paying someone for killing Vice Admiral T Bone, only for him to then be beaten up by Crocodile and Mihawk behind closed doors. As they discussed their intentions for Cross Guild, Buggy thought back to the day of Roger’s execution and his falling out with Shanks. During said flashback, it was revealed thatBuggy hates Shanks because he gave up on becoming the Pirate King after Roger died, which left Buggy wondering why he was suddenly making moves.
Buggy told Crocodile and Mihawk that they needed to think bigger with the power they found themselves with, but they both thought that Buggy was stupid for wanting to deliberately pick a fight with people they could easily just avoid. Nevertheless,Buggy reached out to the rest of Cross Guild and told them that they were going to find the One Piece, and while it stirred everyone into a frenzy, Crocodile and Mihawk were visibly annoyed by the path Buggy was trying to force them on.

While that was happening, not long after Kuma ran off to Mary Geoise, the Revolutionary Army received another surprise whenSabo, who was assumed to have been killed when Imu destroyed the Lulusia Kingdom, returned to the Kamabakka Kingdom alive. Despite the wayOne Pieceepisode #1089framed things, Sabo was actually speaking to Dragon somewhere away from Lulusia, and he and a few survivors avoided the destruction, much to everyone’s joy. Nevertheless, Dragon and Ivankov still needed to know the truth about what happened at the Levely, and the episode ended with Sabo preparing to do just that.
Why Sabo Sounds Different In One Piece Episode 1116
For longtime viewers of theOne Pieceanime, it will be readily apparent that Sabo’s voice sounds very different from how it’s sounded for the past decade, and there’s an unfortunate reason for that. Sabo’s previous voice actor, Toru Furuya, stepped down from the role after years of adultery and domestic abuse came to light, and as such,Miyu Irino, best known as Sora inKingdom Hearts, will voice Sabo for the foreseeable future. Just from episode #1116, however, Irino seems to be a great replacement, and it will be great to see what else he brings to the table.
One Piece Excellently Sets Up Its Next Big Story
WhileOne Pieceepisode #1116 was a rare episode without any action, it was still fun to watch from start to finish. The reveal of Buggy’s true reason for hating Shanks, coupled with his renewed resolve to become the Pirate King, did a great job of fleshing out his character, and portraying the flashback to his fight with Shanks in a cropped aspect ratio was an effective way of emphasizing the flashback. Buggy’s popularity has always been largely out of irony, but episode #1116 did a good job of further justifying why he’s stuck around for almost 30 years.
As for the second half, while it was fairly obvious that Sabo wasn’t dead, seeing him safe and sound was still great, if only for how happy everyone else was to see him alive, and most of all,One Pieceepisode #1116 did a good job of establishing the tension of Sabo preparing to disclose what went down during the Levely. OnceOne Piecereturns from its break, it’s going to jump right into one of its biggest stories to date, and watching that play out is sure to be great.

Be sure to watchOne Pieceepisode #1117 when it releases on Saturday, August 31.
