Summary
With over 30 years gone since the show initially ended on a major cliffhanger, Heather Graham reflects on the mystery of herTwin Peakscharacter’s fate. Graham was introduced in season 2 of David Lynch and Mark Frost’smystery show as Annie Blackburn, the sister of Double R Diner owner Norma who moved back to the titular town and becomes the love interest to Kyle MacLachlan’s Cooper. Having been kidnapped by Windom Earle and taken into the Black Lodge, theTwin Peaksseason 2 finale left both her and Cooper’s fates a mystery for decades after the show’s abrupt cancellation.
During a recent interview withScreen Rantfor her Western thrillerPlace of Bones, Graham was asked about Annie’sTwin Peaksfate. The star admitted to being uncertain what the actual answer is, lamenting her apparent death in the season 2 finale, but remained hopeful for Frost and Lynch to find a way to bring her back to life in a future season. See what Graham said below:

It’s so cool people love that show so much, and I’m also a big fan. I wish that my character was still alive, and I wish I could be in more of the Twin Peaks things. I think it was questioning, “Did she die?” But I would love to come back to life and be in more Twin Peaks stuff. [Laughs] I want to hear about the book, I actually never read that. I want to be brought back to life. Let’s put it out there!
Annie Isn’t The Only Twin Peaks Character Whose Fate Remains Unsolved
The book Graham is referring to is that of Frost’sTwin Peaks: The Final Dossier, released in 2017 shortly after the season 3 finale, in which the co-creator sought to fill in the details of the 25 years between the original series finale and revival. One such detail in the book is an answer to Annie’s fate, in which Frost stated that she has been in a catatonic state in a mental institution in the years since the season 2 finale. Though remaining silent, she does state “I’m fine” once every year on the anniversary of the exact time of her kidnapping by Windom Earle.
10 Characters That Are Inexplicably Absent In Twin Peaks Season 3
Twin Peaks has a sizable cast. While these characters played an important role prior to season 3, they were inexplicably absent from it.
Annie isn’t the onlymajorTwin Peakscharacter whose fate remains unresolved from the show as a whole, either. Cooper and Laura remain the most asked-about by fans of the show, particularly after the season 3 ending saw them seemingly travel to a parallel universe, and the latter begins screaming much in the same way before her death. Audrey Horne also remains in a state of unclear limbo, asTwin Peaksseason 3 saw her in an unhappy marriage, but also saw the finale seemingly tease her being trapped in either a coma after the season 2 bank explosion, or a mental institution.

WhileThe Returnoffered some answers to the show’s ongoing mysteries, it also left even more unansweredTwin Peaksquestions as it introduced more lore about The Lodge’s various entities, including the fact thatJudy is now possessing Sarah Palmer. With many season 2 fates still unknown, including Josie, whose spirit was seen trapped in a wooden doorknob after her death, there is still plenty of material for Graham and co. to explore should Lynch and Frost reunite to develop future episodes.
Twin Peaks
Cast
Conceived by Mark Frost and David Lynch in 1990, Twin Peaks is a supernatural mystery-drama series that brings FBI Agent Dale Cooper to the quiet town of Twin Peaks to investigate the murder of a young woman named Laura Palmer. As Dale continues his investigation of her death, he learns that Laura’s life wasn’t as she advertised it, and the town itself is hiding far more secrets than they let on. The show received a revival for a third and final season two decades later to resolve the cliffhanger left at the end of the second season.
