Xbox Series X|Splayers will soon be able to experience one of the most unique PlayStation console exclusives of the last decade witha sudden release that’s taken everyone by surprise. As Microsoft has slowly begun porting some of Xbox’s best games to other platforms, it’s a refreshing change of pace to see a game that made a name for itself on PlayStation 4 and PC finally coming to Xbox. It may not be a massive hit likeMarvel’s Spider-Manbut it’s still a unique experience that players ought to check out.
Posting to X (formerly Twitter),Kojima Productionsannounced thatDeath Stranding Director’s Cutis now available on Xbox Series X|S.

Those who want to check out the bizarre walking simulator can even pick it up at 50% off its usual price, making it easier for Xbox players to step into the boots of Sam Porter Bridges and begin trekking cargo across the world. Given thatDeath Stranding Director’s Cutis published by 505 Games and not Sony, it stands to reason that it finally made the multiplatform leap, but the lack of rumors about the port makes it a welcome surprise.
Is Death Stranding Worth Your Time?
It’s Certainly Not For Everyone
Back in 2019,Death Strandingproved to be divisive thanks to its campy tone, often repetitive gameplay, and occasionally nonsensical story. While many diehard Kojima fans felt it was a step back for the creator after his excellent work on theMetal Gear Solidseries, plenty more were able to appreciate the game’s unique vision of a post-apocalyptic future. Players will start off bysimply trekking across mountainsto deliver cargo but the more they play, they’ll unlock new tools tomake their trips much easier.
That’s the core ofDeath Stranding’s experience:Deliver packages to earn currency and purchase upgrades and gear. That may sound dull to those looking for explosive action but there is something quite rewarding (and relaxing) about painstakingly hiking across the world to drop off a cargo shipment. That’s not to say the game is devoid of action: Combat isn’t a focus but it’s relatively easy to get into a firefight or brawl with severalenemies both human and non-human.

Death Stranding Is Just Old School D&D With Extra Steps
Death Stranding is like a classic Dungeons & Dragons hex-crawl through the surreal lens of an auteur Dungeon Master, with the same exploration focus.
Death Stranding On Xbox Is A Win
Hopefully More Games Follow Suit
While it seems unlikely that more PlayStation console exclusives will followDeath Stranding Director’s Cutover toXbox Series X|S,it’s still a great move for the community. As much as I didn’t care for its story and characters, I found simply wandering around the world in pursuit of my next delivery remarkably soothing. It’s an enigmatic experience and I’m pleased Xbox users will finally be able to judge it for themselves.
