Two new trademarks seemingly hint at the return of Mega Evolution to thePokémon Trading Card Game. Later this year, The Pokémon Company and Game Freak will releasePokémon Legends ZA,which sends players back to the Kalos region. The region which first appeared inPokémon X & Y,is best known for being the homeof Mega Evolution, which will also be returning in some format in the new game. It also appears that Mega Evolution will be coming back to thePokémon Trading Card Gamesometime in the next year.
ThePokémon TCGnews sitePokeBeachreports that two new trademarks were filed by The Pokémon Company in Japan, which translate to “Mega Brave” and “Mega Symphony.” These trademarks are usually forPokémon TCGsets over in Japan, which indicates that the sets will re-introduce the Mega Evolution to the card game.Obviously, this is all speculation as thePokémon TCGhas not announced anything, nor is there any firm estimate as to when the sets could be released.

How Mega Evolution Works in Pokémon TCG
Pokémon TCG Used Pokémon EX Cards To Bring Mechanic To Life
When thePokémon Trading Card Gamefirst introduced Mega Evolution, they were tied to Pokémon EX cards (not to be confused with Pokémon Ex cards, which are separately categorized.)Players could Mega Evolve certain eligible Pokémon EX cards by using a M-Pokémon EX card, but their turn would immediately end once a Mega Evolution occurred. Players can bypass this rule using a specific Trainer Card tied to a specific Pokémon. For example, a Gengar Spirit Link could be used to evolve Gengar into Mega Gengar without ending the turn, but the Gengar Spirit Link could not be used on any other Pokémon.
Pokémon TCG’s Prismatic Evolutions Set Might Be Hard For Fans To Get Their Hands On As Demand Skyrockets In Store
The newest Pokémon Trading Card Game set will allegedly have low stock at many game stores, meaning that the product could be hard to find.
Mega Evolved Pokémon always had significantly higher HP and a single, powerful attack. However, they had no abilities, and no secondary attack or move of any kind. Mega Evolutions were a key part of thePokémon TCGduring theXYera, although several changes would likely need to take place for them to remain relevant in the currentPokémon TCGgame. For one, most Mega Evolutions are tied to Stage 2 Pokémon, and it would be impractical to evolve a Pokémon three times in the card game. Also, it needs to be determined whether Mega Evolutions can be tied to normal Pokémon cards or just Pokémon ex cards similar to the original mechanic.

Our Take: It’s About Time For Mega Evolution To Return
Pokémon TCG Will Shift Significantly With Return Of Mega Evolution
While the imminent return of Trainer’s Pokémon has me hyped, adding Mega Evolutions to thePokémon TCGhas me even more excited.Bringing back Mega Evolutions could add a whole additional year to the currentScarlet & Violetcycle of the game, assuming that all Mega Evolutions get new cards.
Plus, we could see Mega Evolutions get Special Illustration Rare cards, which could bring Mega Evolutions to life in new ways and make for some major chase cards. We can’t wait to see how Mega Evolutions return to thePokémon Trading Card Game.
