Rebecca Yarros posted a new quote fromOnyx Stormthat could hint that Violet will surprisingly start to mirror one aspect of her late mother. Various theories and possibilities have been created and reevaluated by audiences as thethirdEmpyrean Seriesbook’srelease date draws closer, with the consensus being that there will be a lot of great new information and maybe acharacter death inOnyx Storm.Yarros' newest post, however, hints at a shift in Violet’s character that aligns her closer to her mother, a change that is shocking considering their strained relationship.
Yarros posted a quote from General Lillith Sorrengail’s journal on herInstagram, mirroring both the style of the many epitaphs at the beginning of each chapter and the General’s calculating and cold characterization.Considering how that characterization ostracized her from the more empathetic Violet until her death inIron Flame, it is curious that such a piece of advice would be includedinOnyx Storm. However, with everything that has occurred in the past two books, it is not so jarring to consider that Violet could start adopting her mother’s viewpoints to reach her goals.

Onyx Storm’s New Lilith Sorrengail Quote Hints Violet Is Adopting Her Ruthlessness
Yarros' Caption Draws A Parallel Between Their Respective Weapons
The new quote inOnyx Stormfrom General Lillith Sorrengail hints that Violet could adopt her ruthless nature as both a way to cope with past events and protect her friends from new threats.Yarros' post shows an excerpt from the General’s journal back when she was a Captain, stating how"Sometimes diplomacy is best served at swordpoint.“General Sorrengail inFourth Wingwas willing to do anything to get what she wanted, including placing Violet in the Riders Quadrant against her wishes, so this sentiment from her is unsurprising. What is surprising, though, is Yarros' follow-up in the caption.
Fourth Wing: 10 Details You Might’ve Missed In The Empyrean Series Books That Could Be Important In Onyx Storm
Onyx Storm’s release is only a few weeks away, and Yarros' Empyrean Series has many small details that may be important to the next Fourth Wing book.
Yarros wrote in the post’s caption"or in Violet’s case, the tip of a dagger”,drawing a clear parallel between each Sorrengail’s weapon of choice. That parallel could be a hint that Violet will draw on her mother’s ruthlessness inOnyx Storm, which would be ironic as Violet wanted to avoid becoming like her mother in the first two books. Even with all of the other parallels between them, they were still two very different characters, which makes this potential turn for Violet odd but not completely surprising considering the story’s direction.

Violet Becoming More Like Her Mother Would Be A Surprising But Fitting Turn For Onyx Storm
Violet Embracing Lilith’s Ruthlessness Would Highlight The Severity Of Her Circumstances
Violet adopting these parts of her mother would be surprising but also fitting considering her current circumstances inOnyx Storm. As mentioned,Lillith’s ruthlessness was one of the points Violet was the most critical of, as that drive to do what was necessary resulted in Lillith losing her family and making the people of Navarre ignorant of the venin threat. For Violet to adopt that now over continuing with her more empathetic and scholarly approach would seem out of character until the severity of her situation is considered.
Though it seems as if she will try to seek out new allies inOnyx Storm, Violet may use that calculating mindset to get what she wants quickly before the venin and her fears catch up to her.

Xaden being venin inOnyx Stormand their invasion of Basgiath will likely drive Violet to find a cure and try to identify any more traitors, which will be difficult.Adding to that is the ever-present threat to Violet’s friends and family and the need for answers, of which there are fewdue to the censorship efforts. Though it seems as if she will try to seek out new allies inOnyx Storm,Violet may use that calculating mindset to get what she wants quickly before the venin and her fears catch up to her.
