Impact Winteris getting a Netflix adaptation. The Audible Originals podcast, which has run for three seasons with a fourth on the way, is a post-apocalyptic horror tale that follows two sisters on either side of a war between humans and vampires that arises when a comet hits the earth, blocking out the sun. The podcast was written by Travis Beacham (Carnival Row,Pacific Rim) and features a star-studded voice cast that includesThe Last of UsstarBella Ramsey,Tenet’s Himesh Patel,Shadow and Bone’s Freddy Carter, andClash of the Titans' Liam Cunningham.
PerDeadline,Netflix has now acquiredImpact Winterand is developing it into a streaming series with the studios Skybound and Anonymous Content. Beacham is on board as the show’s creator andHunger Gamesfranchise stalwart Francis Lawrence has been tapped to direct. Beacham and Lawrence are also executive producing alongside Cliff Roberts, Cameron MacConomy, Bard Dorros, Glenn Geller, Rick Jacobs, and Zack Hayden.

What This Means For Impact Winter
The Show Has Already Assembled A Good Team
It makes perfect sense thatImpact Winterwould be a project that appeals to Francis Lawrence, who has directed every movie in theHunger Gamesfranchisesince its second installment, 2013’sCatching Fire. Helping flesh out the world of the young adult dystopian adaptations has likely helped prepare him to bring the post-apocalyptic world of the podcast to life.He has also had additional experience with dystopian and post-apocalyptic storylinesin projects including the television seriesSee(on which he directed three episodes), the 2007 Will Smith movieI Am Legend, and the upcoming Stephen King adaptationThe Long Walk.
The Long Walkwill feature a robust ensemble cast that includes Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis, Mark Hamill, and Judy Greer.

Although Lawrence’s commitment to theupcomingHunger Games: Sunrise on the Reapingcould impact the pre-production schedule ofImpact Winter,he is likely the perfect choice for the vampire showgiven his extensive history with the genre. This will also give the director his first opportunity to helm a proper vampire story after the adaptationI Am Legend, which is based on Richard Matheson’s post-apocalyptic vampire novel of the same name but took liberties with the concept that made its sun-averse monsters completely different from traditional vampires.
Our Take On The Impact Winter Show
It Is An Exciting Prospect For Netflix
Impact Wintercould be perfect for Netflix in multiple ways. The first is that the podcast is still ongoing, so there is ample material to adapt should the show be renewed for further seasons. Another is the fact some original stars could potentially reprise their roles, which could help draw in fans of the podcast. While Bella Ramsey may be too busy with her commitments toThe Last of Us,Liam Cunningham has already worked with Beacham multiple times, having previously collaborated on 2010’sClash of the Titans, so there is a solid likelihood that he could return, among others.
