While both Ingrid and Ellen have been seduced by their respective monstrous entities, Ellen - thanks to the support and love she now has in her life - wants to combat the darkness, as seen in Ellen and Orlok’s final encounter. She knows she can be satisfied in her marriage if they were free from Orlok, and she knowswhat Orlok promises, while tempting at first, comes at the cost of unjust pain, like the death of her friend, Anna (Emma Corrin).
The darkness does not shame her, nor does it deny her.

Ingrid, however, lacks that support. She is further pushed toward the darkness by those who supposedly love her. The darkness does not shame her, nor does it deny her. As a result,Ingrid is more compelled to embrace it and live a life for herself, one free of the loneliness, judgment, and hate she endures in a “civilized” society.
For those who wanted to see Ellen embrace the darkness instead of fight it,Somnadelivers just that. It’s a Gothic romance that lets its leading woman embrace her “sin” and eventually be herself, her husband and society’s judgments be damned. On top of that, it is a gorgeous comic, bouncing between two distinct art styles to compliment Ingrid’s dark fantasy and tragic reality.DSTLRY’sSomnais a must-read for Gothic romance and dark romance fans, as well as fans ofNosferatu.
