If Mike Ross ever appears inSuits: L.A., the spinoff would have the chance of undoing a storyline that tookSuitsseven seasons to build. During a recent interview withTV Line, Patrick J. Adams once again shared his excitement over Aaron Korsh’supcomingSuitsspinoffand said he would be up to return as Mike Ross if needed. When asked about whether Mike and Rachel would still be together during the events ofSuits: L.A., Adams said“Of course they are. Or at least I hope so…”

The actor would go on to say that it would be interesting to figure out how it is going with Mike and Rachel,“or if it is going.”While this is not indicative of anything, it does show that aMike Ross cameo inSuits: L.A.would give the franchise the perfect opportunity to reveal the status of Mike and Rachel’s relationship more than five years after the events ofSuits’ series finale.Mike Ross and Rachel Zane got married at the end of season 7and were still together during season 9.

Mike Ross Appearing In Suits: L.A. Could Change The Status Of His Marriage

A Mike Ross Return Would Have To Acknowledge Rachel’s Absence

If Mike shows up inSuits: L.A., the spinoff will likely acknowledge his personal life, or at least how things have been for his clinic in Seattle. This means that it is arguably impossible for Mike to have a cameo inSuits: L.A.without the show acknowledging Rachel. However, given that Meghan Markle retired from acting and left the show in 2017 amidst her and Prince Harry’s engagement,Suitswould once again have to justify why Rachel is not with Mike. This was a problem thatSuits’ final season ran into.

“Of course they are. Or at least I hope so… That will be the interesting thing, if we can get Mike back in the fold somehow. I guess we’ll figure out how it’s going [with Rachel] — or if it’s going.”

Patrick J. Adams reprised his role as Mike Rossin three episodes ofSuitsseason 9, including the series finale. While these episodes made a couple of references to Rachel – one of which even joked about how the character was doing just fine back home – they simply established that Mike’s wife remained in Seattle while was in New York. Aaron Korsh would later reveal that he did not even consider asking Markle to appear in the finale because he didn’t want to put her in that situation. Regardless,Suits: L.A.will have a similar problem if Mike returns.

Bringing Mike Back For Any Suits Reboot Would Always Run Into A Rachel Problem

Mike And Rachel Were Married Living In Seattle At The End Of Suits

Although it made sense for Rachel to be busy in Seattle while Mike was in New York dealing with Harvey, it was strange hearing so little about Rachel inSuits’ final season. That said, it worked within the context of the story, namely because Mike Ross was no longer the protagonist. Patrick J. Adams was a guest star in the true sense of the word forSuitsseason 9, and the same will be the case if he appears inSuits: L.A.as Mike. However,Mike returning once again without Rachel would leave room for the series to retcon their marriage.

Harvey and Donna also moved to Seattle to work with Rachel and Mike at the end of season 9.

Adams’ comments on howSuits: L.A.would have to“figure out how it’s going”regarding Mike and Rachel’s marriage puts into perspective how tricky it can be to bring his character back without Markle’s. Mike’s happy ending inSuitsseason 7 was tied to Rachel, and their stories had always been connected. Once Mike got out of prison, passed the bar, and married Rachel, there was really nothing else that could be done with the character. This is why their exits fromSuits, while bittersweet, were not as disastrous to the story as they could have been.

Why Mike And Rachel Need To Remain Married (Even If Rachel Never Appears)

The Suits Franchise Should Not Throw Away Mike And Rachel’s Character Arcs

Mike having to appear without Rachel does not mean thatSuits: L.A.– or any kind ofSuitsrevival – would have to break up the couple. Mike’s appearances inSuitsseason 9 worked just fine with the justification that Rachel was in Seattle, and the same could be done again every time he was to come back. Assuming Mike Ross or any of theSuitsactorseventually appear inSuits: L.A., it would most likely be as cameos rather than a recurring character. In other words, Mike’s personal life would not have to be a central part of his story.

10 Best Suits Scenes That Defined The Show

From Harvey interviewing Mike to Louis blackmailing his way into name partner, Suits has a lot of iconic scenes that are not easy to forget.

It’s also unclear if Mike Ross would have any personal connection to any of theSuits: L.A.characters, or if he would be simply another lawyer working on a case either with or against the attorneys at Black Lane Law. Regardless, seeing Patrick J. Adams as Mike Ross again so many years afterSuitsended would be very special, even if just as a cameo.
