DespiteMetaphor: ReFantazio’s lengthy campaign, many players will be eager to begin their New Game+ playthrough and curious about what they can carry over. Thankfully, as Atlus has offered in the past with previous games, several vital gameplay elements will carry over, giving players some breathing room with their dungeon deadlines to accomplish other tasks.

However, carrying over previous unlocks isn’t the only thing New Game+ players should be excited about in their second playthrough. For those looking for more action, try your hand at the secret boss that only becomes available once a New Game+ playthrough has been initiated, The Redscale Apocalypse Dragon.

How To Unlock New Game Plus

Finish The Main Campaign of Metaphor: ReFantazio

The way to start New Game+ is rather simple and self-explanatory. To unlock the option, you will first need to have completed the entire main campaign and witnessMetaphor: ReFantazio’s true ending, wherein you will see the screen “Fantasy Lives On…” and be able to watch the credits.

If you feel confident about the advantages you’ll be carrying over, consider trying out the Regicide difficulty, which is locked to players on their first playthrough.

Once the credits are finished, you will be prompted to create a clear data file, where you will begin your New Game+ playthrough. It will carry over your total play time as other Atlus games have as well, so don’t be concerned if the file does not appear to be starting back at 0. Once you open that file and begin your playthrough, you will officially be starting your New Game+ run.

What Carries Over To New Game Plus

Everything You Can Bring With You & What Will Reset In NG+

Unfortunately, not everything will be brought over to the New Game+ playthrough,as seen inThe Game Looters’s video. Otherwise, key moments in the story wouldn’t make sense anymore, such as immediately having access to all archetypes despite not interacting with the Followers associated with them yet. Everything that carries over is only intended to enhance your second playthrough and help you collect achievements that may not have been possible the first go around.

Metaphor: ReFantazio has the Bonds system similar to Social Links from Persona. These extend to both party members and NPCs, granting 14 in total.

For this reason, many of the more minor aspects of the game will carry over with no problem, includingMoney, MAG, Items, Equipment, and Gold Beetles. Note that even though items carry over, essential story items, other than those received as a reward through bonds, do not. Furthermore, you can carry over your Archetype progress but will not have them immediately unlocked. So, you will need tounlock the Archetypes through story progressionagain, but once unlocked, they will have all previous progress available immediately.

Perhaps one of the most essential things that carries over is your Royal Virtues, also known as your Social Stats. Although this may seem pretty insignificant, this allows so much more versatility with your days leading up to various deadlines. Since you will not have to waste time increasing your Royal Virtues, you can spend it in other ways, including using extra dungeon days purely for treasure hunting or grinding up your level.

If you haven’t completed your initial playthrough yet, it’s highly recommended that you take some time to fully max out your Royal Virtues, as shown inThe Game Looters' YouTube video above. This way, you won’t have to worry about them, rather than still spend time acquiring those last few points.

Although there is a lot to carry over, it’s worth mentioning that, in some ways, it may not be worth your time to seriously grind levels or things of that nature in your first run unless you don’t intend to play NG+ at all. The things you should be farming, however, are items and equipment since these carryover and are valuable early on, and you will be able to use them while you work on grinding your levels back up in your second playthrough.

Everything New In New Game+

Open The Book Of Apocalypse

Playing through the game a second time with some advantages isn’t the only appealing thing about New Game+ inMetaphor: ReFantazio. While playing through the game, you likely encountered a mysterious apocalyptic book in Akademia that you were unable to open or interact with. Despite checking in every time you’re in the room, you’re able to never do anything with The Book of Apocalypse during your first playthrough.

Should You Fight The Dragon In Metaphor: ReFantazio?

Metaphor: ReFantazio’s first optional boss is a sleeping dragon, guarding a hoard in the Nord Mines. But is the challenge worth the rewards?

However, those who do opt to play through New Game+ will be glad to know that the book is now unlocked. Interacting with it now, as long as you are not playing on Storyteller difficulty, will allow you to fight a secret boss, the Redscale Apocalypse Dragon. That being said, this is a tough fight, and seeing as how your levels will be reset, it is not recommended that you attempt this until you have managed to increase that significantly, despite how tempting it may be to jump right into this secret fight inMetaphor: ReFantazio.
