The originalPower Rangersuniverse may have come to an end, and its final episode could not have been a better conclusion to the TV show. Following a report thatPower Rangersis getting a new show on Disney+, it is safe to say that the franchise is about to change forever. FromMighty MorphinPower Rangersin 1993 toPower RangersCosmic Furyin 2023,everyPower RangersTV showhas so far followed the same formula ofSuper Sentaiadaptations and has taken place in the same continuity. This will most likely change with the new Disney+ show.
WhenCosmic Furyentered development, I was already under the impression that it was going to be the final season in the old format. In fact,Cosmic Furyitself was quite different from the averagePower Rangersseason, with just 10 episodes instead of the usual 20 or so and only a handful of sequences that includedSuper Sentaifootage. Even theCosmic Furycostumes were original and not fromSentai. Despite my problems with the season,I lovedCosmic Fury’s final episode, and it might have become even more significantahead of the reboot.

Cosmic Fury’s Ending Was A Nostalgic Conclusion To Power Rangers
Billy, Lord Zedd, Rita, And Zordon Were All Involved
Cosmic Furywas one of two bigPower Rangersreleases that were meant to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary in 2023, the other beingOnce & Always. WhereasOnce & Alwayswas a standalone adventure that brought back some of the originalMighty Morphinactors,Cosmic Furywas a direct sequel toDino Furyand saw the currentPower Rangersteamfacing Lord Zedd in space. The return ofLord Zedd, one of the most iconicPower Rangersvillains, was not the only nostalgic aspect ofCosmic Fury, though. Billy, the original Blue Ranger, was also part of the season.
David Yost’s return as Billy inCosmic Furymade it clear that season 30 was going to be a celebration of the show. WhileCosmic Furymostly focused on the new, young characters fromDino Fury, it was full of callbacks not only toMMPRbut also to other importantPower Rangersmoments. This includes the finale, during which Billy finally understood what happened to Zordon after the Z-Wave fromPower Rangersin Space. Thanks to Aiyon, the Cosmic Fury Gold Ranger,Billy learned that Zordon was still out there as part of the Morphin Grid.

Zordon Wasn’t Really Gone
AssumingCosmic Furytruly is the end of the originalPower Rangersshow ahead of a new interpretation of the franchise, there could not have been a better way to wrap up the franchise than to have Billy find closure about Zordon. Granted, while it could have been fun to see moreMighty Morphincharacters show up,Billy was arguably the most importantPower Rangerscharacter in 2023.He was central to the events ofOnce & Always, during which he accidentally brought Rita Repulsa back while trying to restore Zordon.
Zordon’s physical body was destroyed inPower Rangers in Space’s “Countdown to Destruction, Part 2.”

At the end of the 30th-anniversary special,Billy could feel that Zordon was alive and could be reached, he just didn’t know how. We, the audience, found the answer before Billy inCosmic Furyepisode 10. Titled “The End,” theCosmic Furyfinaleopens with Aiyon inside the Morphin Grid talking to someone who was presenting themselves as Zayto but wasn’t actually the Zenith Ranger. Although this person never says their name, they bid farewell to Aiyon by saying“May the power protect you,”all but confirming that it was Zordon all along.
It’s Fitting That Cosmic Fury Ended With A Celebration Of Zordon’s Words
“May The Power Protect You” Was One Of The Final Lines On The Show
The final minutes ofPower RangersCosmic Furyhad Javi, the Black Ranger, performing his brand-new song alongside his band. Javi had spent most of the season trying to write a new song and even came up with Lord Zedd-inspired lyrics for when the Rangers had to disguise themselves as an alien rock band. While the Lord Zedd song was fun,Javi’s “May the Power Protect You” is way more meaningful now that I think about it.
10 Best Power Rangers Series That Still Hold Up Today
The most famous Power Rangers seasons were released in the 1990s and early 2000s, but some of these series have aged much better than others.
The Cosmic Fury Black Ranger wrote that song, whose lyrics include “Wherever you are, No matter how far, May the power protect you…,” after hearing from Aiyon what he had experienced inside the Morphin Grid. The original Blue Ranger instantly recognized Zordon’s famous saying, which was all the confirmation Billy needed about his mentor still being alive. While we didn’t get to see Billy interact with Zordon, I’m glad that Mighty Morphin Blue Ranger found some closure at the very end ofPower Rangersafter what he went through inOnce & Always.
