Jean Grey Has Become the Galaxy’s Strongest Cosmic Hero
Marvel’s X-Men Editor Confirms the Guardians' Return
Earlier this year, Tom Brevoort, an editor for Marvel Comics and the Group Editor of the newX-Menseries, revealed in an interview with theHomo Superior Podcastsome of the upcoming plans for all the currentX-Mentitles, includingPhoenix. He mostly spoke about the complicated nature ofJean and Cyclops’s relationship, as the two heroes are currently light years apart from each other. However,Brevoort did confirm that Jean Grey will eventually have some kind of crossover with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
“We’ll be seeing a lot of pieces from the cosmic end of the scale as guest characters and villains and things beyond even just the characters that you would typically think of for the X-Men. So, yeah, we’ll do Starjammers, and we’ll do Imperial Guard, but we’ll also do, I guess, Nova at this point has been on X-Men Red so much he might as well be a mutant. We’ll do Guardians of the Galaxy stuff. We’ll do stuff from G.O.D.S. We’ll do stuff from all that other stuff is all fodder for for this book. But it’s Jean being big and awesome.”

While no details have currently been shared, it does lead oneto wonder what a Jean Grey-led Guardians of the Galaxy could look like. Space is a foreign territory for Earth’s mutants, leading Grey to look for new allies who are more familiar with the geopolitics of the galaxy. Already in the series, she has worked alongside Nova, who was a one-time member of the Guardians, and is scheduled to team up with Captain Marvel later this year. As the series progresses, fans may see a fully-fledged team develop to fill the voidStar-Lord and his Guardiansleft behind.
A New Guardians of the Galaxy is a World of New Possibilities
New and Old Heroes Alike Have a Chance to Join the Roster
Jean Grey is a woman tortured by the chaos that the Phoenix has brought against the Earth and her mutant allies; her current journeys serve as a form of self-exile. Luckily, the galaxy is full of outcasts with complicated histories who could potentially fill out the ranks of a future Guardians of the Galaxy team. Harder anti-heroes likethe Cosmic Ghost Riderand Ronan the Accuser would be able to support the cosmic mutant’s acceptance of her power’s destructive force and could serve as a counterbalance to the lawful nature of potential members like Nova and Captain Marvel.
Marvel Writer Teases Phoenix’s New “Space HQ,” As Jean Grey Enters Her Cosmic Era
As Jean Grey heads to space & becomes a cosmic hero in a Phoenix solo series, the book’s writer teased that she will have a new base of operations.
On the other hand, Jean’s Guardians could allow lesser-known space-faring heroes a chance to shine just asthe original Guardians of the Galaxyhave done many times before. One such character is Rom the Space Knight, an older hero last seen in the early ‘80s and who has had a few run-ins with the X-Men already. Regardless of howJean Grey’s team would be put together if given the chance, Marvel is perfectly laying the groundwork for her to build a team of her own in the future that could easily transform into the new generation’sGuardians of the Galaxy.

Phoenix#2will be available August 21 from Marvel Comics.
