The Apple TV+ seriesShrinkingwill finally return this fall, continuing the story of Jason Segel’s character Jimmy Laird, and theunorthodox therapy methodshe engages in following his wife’s death. Season 2 will begin to unravel the consequences of Laird telling clients exactly what he thinks, particularly what happened at the end ofShrinking’s season 1 finale, when one of his patients pushed her abusive husband off a cliff. Alongside Segel, the show stars veteran actors like Harrison Ford and Ted McGinley alongside rising stars like actress Lukita Maxwell.
Before her role as Jimmy’s daughter Alice inShrinking, Maxwell had starred in a few other projects, like the HBO Max seriesGenerationand Blumhouse Productions horror filmAfraid. Her character went through a lot last season, having to deal with not only the death of her mother but the effects of said death on her father, as well as being turned down after confessing her feelings to herfriend Sean due to their age difference. This tumultuousness will no doubt continue into season 2, considering Jimmy will now also be dealing with his client’s impulsive cliff push.

Shrinking Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Story, Trailer & Everything We Know
The Jason Segel and Harrison Ford-starring Shrinking was another huge hit for AppleTV+, and here’s everything we know about Shrinking season 2.
Screen Rantinterviewed Lukita Maxwell to talk about the changes Alice goes through in season 2, what about Alice she relates to the most, and her character’s relationships inShrinking’s second season.

Shrinking’s Second Season Sees Alice Be “More Of A Teenager”
Maxwell’s Character Can Lean Into Her Immaturity More Now
Screen Rant: This season deals with the consequences of Jimmy’s unorthodox approach to therapy. Alice doesn’t want to see her dad regress. How has Alice’s complex relationship with her dad evolved this season inShrinking?
Lukita Maxwell: I think season 1, we are seeing Alice as a rock, a constant, and she’s kind of the one that has her s*** together the most. I think in season 2 we get to see her be a little bit more of a teenager. She gets to make some mistakes, learn the consequences, try and ask for forgiveness, and that is her development in season 2.

Speaking of forgiveness, that’s a big theme this season. Can you talk about how that applies to Alice this season?
Lukita Maxwell: We see in season 2 her relationship developed with her friend Summer, played by Rachel Stubington - the brilliant Rachel Stubington - and this is a character that’s obviously her age, her peer. We hadn’t seen so much of their relationship in season 1, and her dynamic with somebody her own age that maybe hasn’t gone through - in her mind - as much hardship makes her act in a certain way towards her friend that is maybe not so chill; she learns to ask for forgiveness to her best friend. That’s a big one this season, but there’s so much more.

Alice Will “Branch Out” More In Shrinking Season 2
The Character Will Take On Both New Growth & New Worries
Can you talk about Alice’s friendship with Summer and Connor and how they either help or hinder her coping mechanism?
Lukita Maxwell: I think she’s going through grief and interacting with people outside of her small bubble that she’s kind of put herself in season 1. She’s starting to branch out, starting to open up, starting to try and meet new people, and I think Summer and Connor have been constants to her for a long time.
Because she’s been so close to them growing up as neighbors or best friends for a while, those are the people that are closest to her. I feel like they’re almost easier to hurt, because you have that familiarity.
You described Alice as being a rock really in season 1. What aspects of Alice’s character do you find the most relatable or resonate with you personally the most?
Lukita Maxwell: I would love to say that I’m strong and will tap out of any negative energy when I don’t like the vibe, just like, “This is not the vibe, I’m out.”
Perfect. Now, can you talk about Alice’s relationship with Paul this season and where we see that go?
Lukita Maxwell: In the beginning of season 2, we see them have their sessions, and she’s justreally worried about Jimmy. After the chaos of where we leave season 1 with his patient Grace, he’s potentially at the beginning of a spiral, and she can sense that. She’s worried about that, and she brings all of her worries about Jimmy to Paul and is trying to get his advice and his insight on that.
