A recentNintendoFCC filing once again resurrected hopes for a reveal of the Nintendo Switch’s successor, but the hardware has turned out to be something vastly different. Nintendo is often tight-lipped when it comes to upcoming products, so it’s not uncommon for concepts to first hit the public when people uncover new patents or similar reports. In this case, a wireless device from the company appeared in a Federal Communications Commission filing, but details like the lack of a battery and the lack of any reference to game consoles indicated that it wasn’t what people had been waiting for.

Nintendo has now announced the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, revealed in a trailer on theNintendo of AmericaYouTube channel, whichTom Warrennotes on Twitter as the “mystery Nintendo hardware” from the FCC filing. Alarmo plays music to wake up users, but it diverges from the standard alarm clock by responding to the user’s movement with sounds from video games.

It Isn’t The Switch 2 But It Will Have A Hefty Price Tag

Alarmo Is Going To Appeal To Everyone

The price tag on Alarmo is obviously quite a bit more expensive than the average alarm clock, situating it as a product that might only be for superfans. Plenty of comments on the news are already responding negatively to the price, but there’s still some enthusiasm for a Nintendo alarm clock so dedicated to its concept.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Review - The Zelda I Was Waiting For

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom combines the freedom of recent titles with the structure of classic games, and it’s absolutely worth playing.

The idea itself is also bound to be divisive by nature. While incorporating music and sounds from Nintendo games is cute, it doesn’t necessarily feel like one of Nintendo’s most revolutionary gimmicks, and whether it sounds like an enjoyable part of the morning routine is definitely going to be different from person to person.

Fans Wonder If The Switch 2 Is On The Horizon

It Shouldn’t Be Far Off Now

Although the Alarmo’s FCC filing ultimately had nothing to do with the rumored Nintendo Switch 2,I’d still hazard that the console will be announced in the near future. 2024 has been filled with leaks, reports, and speculation indicating that it’s not far off, and the console may have actually been intended for a 2024 release beforebeing moved to 2025in a rumored internal delay.

How The Nintendo Switch 2 Could Avoid The Switch’s Biggest Problem

The Nintendo Switch has a major issue that not only affects consumers but developers too. Fortunately, the Nintendo Switch 2 could fix it.

Nintendo’s certainly keeping some focus on the original Switch for the holiday season, with the recent release ofThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomand theupcomingSuper Mario Party JamboreeandMario & Luigi: Brothershippoised to end up under plenty of Christmas trees. A reveal of theNintendoSwitch 2 before the end of the year also seems likely, however, with the console possibly releasing in the first quarter of 2025.
