Summary
Marvel just announced its newInfinity Watchteam, with a god-tier roster who make theAvengerslook like the B-team. Previous versions of the Infinity Watch have taken charge of protecting the Infinity Stones, keeping them from the wrong hands. Now, spinning out of Marvel’s ongoing ‘Infinity Watch’ crossover, a new team will form under the leadership of Phil Coulson and Colleen Wing. These characters have more raw power than the gods themselves, but they’re also all painfully new to the superhero game.
Per a recent reveal fromComicBook.com, December will see the launch of a newInfinity Watchseries, with theresurrected SHIELD agent Phil Coulsonleading the new Infinity Stone bearers. Currently, Marvel’s ‘Infinity Watch’ crossover is taking place across its 2024 annuals, as Thanos attempts to hunt down and steal the power of the new Infinity Stone bearers. The cover also seemingly gives fans their first look at Worldmind -the new bearer of the Mind Stone, who is planned to debut in September 4’sMoon Knight Annual, from Dan Watters, Derek Landy and Sara Pichelli.Infinity Watchwriter Derek Landy emphasizes the immense, godly power of the team as well as their newcomer status, saying:
It’s not every day you’re asked to assemble a new team of heroes… and even less often you’re asked to write an omnipotent team of misfits and malcontents. Aside from fan-favorites Phil Coulson and Colleen Wing, this is a group of oddballs, criminals, and, frankly, idiots who suddenly realize that they’re the most powerful beings in existence. There are big, terrible things on the horizon, and writing these bickering, petty wild cards and loose cannons as they stumble from lighthearted misadventure to reality-altering terror has been an absolute pleasure. The question then becomes: if your protagonists are all-powerful, how dangerous must your antagonist have to be to possibly challenge them?

“The Death Stone”: Thanos Officially Introduces Seventh Infinity Stone, Permanently Changing 48 Years of Marvel Lore
After months of teasing and false starts, Thanos has forged a new Infinity Stone, with some major cosmic consequences for the Marvel Universe.
Because the Infinity Stones operate as a circuit of power, the closer the bearers get to each other, the more intense their powers become - working together will therefore give them the full power of the Infinity Gauntlet, which defeated Galactus with a single snap.

Recently,Thanos created a new ‘Death Stone’by trapping the essence of his former love Death within an artificial Infinity Stone. Thanos sought to use the powers of the other Stone bearers to break the Death Stone to his will, but instead inspired it to find a new partner to bond with. That bearer turned out to be the formerly dead Phil Coulson - resurrected from the grave and merged with the Death Stone. Now, Thanos is chasing down and attempting to kill the Stone bearers to retrieve his creation, with his efforts bringing the heroes and villains into contact for the first time.

The new Infinity Stone bearers were created in the 2018Infinity Warsevent, when Adam Warlock gave the Infinity Stones free will.Despite this, the bearers haven’t all met yet, and fans haven’t even seen the Mind Stone’s bearer, teased as ‘Worldmind.’ Because the Infinity Stones operate as a circuit of power, the closer the bearers get to each other, the more intense their powers become - however, because they’re physically bonded with their Stones, an increase in power also means their personalities begin to be warped by their abilities. Power Stone bearer Apex has been traveling with Soul Stone bearer Multitude lately, and has been repeatedly overcome by his desire to prove his strength, turning him into a deadly threat to heroes like Wolverine and Thor.
At the same time, bearers like Star and Quantum have only used their powers for personal advancement, meaning that as powerful as each member is, Coulson will have his work cut out forging them into true heroes. Thankfully, Coulson has a lot of experience working alongside superpowered beings, and his black ops training could turn his new charges into some of Marvel’s smoothest operators… at least, given time. Marvel has a new most powerful team in theInfinity Watch, but while they’re way more powerful than anyAvengersroster, it will take them a lot of training to become anything like the same level of hero.
