Why Charlie Cox’s Red Daredevil Suit Is The Best
The Red Suit Best Resembles The Iconic Daredevil Comic Look
Daredevil’s red suit was one of the most exciting reveals in comic book television, and the buildup to it was worth the wait. With deep, red colors that give the uniform a weathered and authentic appearance, the originalDaredevilseries took its time to build up to the suit, having Matt Murdock dress in black for much of season 1.When it was revealed, however, it was incredibly satisfying. Daredevil typically wears this red suit in the comics, and it has become an important part of the depiction of his character.
All three seasons of Netflix’sDaredevilare available to stream on Disney+.
The redness of the suit clearly reflects the Devil theme, and it is hard to argue that the uniform looks cool. Unlike in the 2003 Ben Affleck-starring film, the costume looks realistic and purposeful. The red is terrifying and can hide the splashes of blood, and the tactical makeup allows the hero to fight better while wearing it,rather than to reflect leathery fashion trends of its time. While other suits have been fun to see the hero wear, this is clearly the most iconic version for the hero’s future in the MCU.

MCU Daredevil’s Other Costumes Explained
Matt Murdock Has Worn Various Suits In The MCU
Notably, Daredevil did not debut in the comics wearing his red uniform, even if that has become the costume with which he is more typically associated. In fact, thenew suit the hero wore inShe-Hulk: Attorney at Lawis closer to the original comic appearance, which featured a yellow helmet over a red torso. In issue #7 of his titular comic book, Daredevil first donned the fully red costume that has since become his standard outfit across media. The unbranded black suit worn in the first season of the Netflix series is also drawn from the comics.
Daredevil has worn several outfits in the MCU, but each seemed to contribute to the character’s growth and culminate with the suit worn inEcho. This appears likely to be similar to the version that will be worn inBorn Again, as it features the classic red look but with a great deal of polish and thought behind it.Most of the past costumes were prototypes, working toward this iconic look that the hero will surely wear in the upcoming series.

Costume Changes Are An Important Part Of Comic Book Movies
It may seem ironic that Marvel’s blind superhero has so many different looks, but various costumes appear to be a notable feature for just about any comic book character. Each new film saw slightly different looks for heroes like Iron Man and Captain America, with each new outfit impacting the story.Spider-Man, too, saw many different costumes, including the Iron Spider suit. Daredevil having a sequence of costumes is the same as any of these other heroes.
Part of this is for story reasons: Daredevil had no reason to wear a cool uniform at the beginning of his career, and dressing up in black tights made sense for the hero. His appearance inShe-Hulkwas initially supposed to be a different variant of the hero, which would explain the other uniform, although it seems this is no longer the case. Some of the costume changes are material concerns, too, as an opportunity for Marvel to sell more toys and merchandise.

With all the costume options available,it is comforting thatDaredevil: Born Againwill see the hero’s iconic red costume prominently featured. While the hero wearing various uniforms is certainly welcome, especially when they pay tribute to the character’s comic history, the hero needs his red costume to embody the classic look that’s expected of Daredevil. Thankfully, it appears Marvel is well aware of this and intends on using the red suit in the upcomingDaredevil: Born Again.
