I Think The Andor Season 2 Trailer Is Showing The Ghorman Massacre
Given thatAndorseason 2 will take place between 4 and 1 BBY and that Mon Mothma will continue to play a major role in the series,it seems likely thatAndorwill depict the Ghorman Massacre. The Ghorman Massacre originates in the Expanded Universe, which was the officialStar Warscanon until its rebranding as the alternate Legends timeline in 2014. Like many other elements of Legends-era lore, the Ghorman Massacre was brought into the modern canon, with the event being referenced in properties like theStar Wars Rebelsepisode “Secret Cargo.”
Details about the Ghorman Massacre are somewhat vague (which works inAndor’sfavor), but it has been established thatthe massacre involved Imperial troops murdering peaceful protesters on the Colonies planet of Ghorman. The infamous massacre galvanized beings to side with the growing Rebel Alliance. This included Ghorman native Magva Yarro – a protester who survived the massacre and later joinedSaw Gerrera’s Partisans as a member of the Cavern Angels. Another was the iconic future Rebel leader Mon Mothma.

The Cavern Angels consist of X-wings and U-wings with a distinctive black and white paint scheme, andCavern Angels X-wings will be shown in action inAndorseason 2.
The Ghorman Massacre Draws Straight From Star Wars Legends
The Ghorman Massacre has been part ofStar Warslore for a surprisingly long time, with the event first being mentioned in the 1990 bookThe Rebel Alliance Sourcebook, by Paul Murphy. In its original incarnation, the Ghorman Massacre occurred when protesters blocked a landing pad on which a vessel ferrying Wilhuff Tarkin was trying to land.Tarkin himself perpetrated the massacre, ordering that the vessel land on top of the protesters, killing and maiming nearly all of them. Emperor Palpatine himself seemingly gave Tarkin permission to give this order and rewarded him after the massacre.
Star Wars Fans Are Convinced New Andor Season 2 Footage Shows One Of The Empire’s Worst Atrocities
New footage from Andor includes a shot of what fans are convinced is one of the Empire’s greatest atrocities… setting up a massive Mon Motha story!
The Ghorman Massacre was a significant moment in the history of the eventual Rebel Alliance. The massacre, which occurred in 18 BBY in its original form, led members of the Delegation of 2000 to work more aggressively and, in some cases, openly against the Empire. Bail Organa and Jan Dodonna were among the many beings who became full-fledged opponents of the Galactic Empire because of the Ghorman Massacre.
The Delegation of 2000 was arguably the earliest form of the eventual Rebel Alliance. Its members were Galactic Republic politicians (such as Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, and Padmé Amidala) who objected to their government’s democratic backsliding during the Clone Wars.
The Ghorman Massacre Was A Key Moment In Mon Mothma’s Life
Unsurprisingly, the Ghorman Massacre led Mon Mothma to work closely with other members of the Delegation of 2000 to form a proper Rebel Alliance in the Legends continuity. Mothma, like Garm Bel Iblis, made their disdain for the Empire far less subtle than Organa, however, leading them both to flee Imperial retaliation. Mothma would, of course, go on to become one of the key leaders of the Rebel Alliance.
The Ghorman Massacre affected Mon Mothma to an even greater degree in the modern canon. As revealed inRebels, Mothma directly criticized Emperor Palpatine and condemned the massacre before her eventual official Declaration of the Rebel Alliance.Andorseason 2 will seemingly depict the Ghorman Massacre in live-action, demonstrating the Empire’s brutality and showing a key moment in Mon Mothma’s characterization.
