At a preview event forAndorseason 2, showrunner Tony Gilroy mentioned the potential dark future ofStar Warsby addressing an upcoming horror project. As press forAndorseason 2 has gone on, Gilroy has mentioned that he has greatly valued the freedom Lucasfilm has allowed him in craftingAndor’s story, making it uniquely mature and grounded in a way otherStar Warsmovies and TV showsaren’t. Along these lines, he somewhat jokingly shared hopes thatAndorcould be setup for bothStar Warssitcoms and horror.
Gilroy was thus asked byBusiness Insiderwhat he would do with aStar Warshorror project, to whichGilroy responded with a rather surprising “They’re doing that.“He goes on to clarify a bit more by adding, “I think they’re doing that. I think that’s in the works, yeah.” It would seem, then, thatStar Warshas a horror project in development currently, though further details about this mystery project are, obviously, nonexistent at the moment.

What A Horror Project Means For Star Wars
They’re Treading New Ground
Horror is a genre thatStar Warsfans have been wanting the franchise to explorefor quite some time now. The closest the franchise has come to this on-screen isThe Acolyteepisode 5 “Night,” in which Manny Jacinto’s menacing Sith Lord, The Stranger, slaughters nearly an entire group of Jedi with little to no trouble at all - though Darth Vader’s famous hallway scene fromRogue One: A Star Wars Storyis also a strong contender.
The Acolyte Episode 5 Is The Biggest Jedi Massacre Since Revenge Of The Sith
Order 66 may be the biggest Jedi massacre in Star Wars, but The Acolyte episode 5 features the largest number of subsequent deaths since the prequels.
These moments, however, are just small dips into the greater world of the horror genre, and it would be huge ifStar Warstruly did have a pure horror project in development. It’s very unlike anything the franchise has ever pursued before, as George Lucas famously kept his movies family-friendly, and Disney’sStar Warshas followed in his footsteps with the sequel trilogy and TV shows likeThe Mandalorian. This horror project would be a risk well taken for the franchise.

What Kind Of Horror Project Would Star Wars Pursue?
The Dark Side Of The Force, Terrifying Creatures, & More
What comes next is speculation about what kind of horror projectStar Warscould be pursuing, and there seem to be a few obvious avenues they could take. It’s hard to say whether they would want to pursue something like this in a movie or TV show, but it’s much easier to reason out who they would focus on.Any dark side Force user would make for a perfect focus in aStar Warshorror project, as there are still some haunting mysteries of the dark side we haven’t even seen yet.
Many fans have long since been asking for a Darth Vader-centric horror story, although the recentannouncement of a Darth Vader novelseems to make that more difficult, if that chilling story is being told somewhere else. Given the endless reaches of the massiveStar Warsgalaxy, there are also so many things this horror project could focus on outside the Force, too. From creepy creatures to haunting planets,Star Warshas plenty of unique opportunities for exploration in a horror project.
