Even factoring in a massively expensive marketing budget that would match the film’s production, that figure only amounts to $300 million, meaning the studios and everyone involved likely got a decent payout.
It’s not the most profitable movie of all time, but compared to everything else that had a theatrical release by the Pokémon company, it was by far the most popular (viaThe Numbers). So it isunlikely that the movie’s turnover is to blamefor why the sequel has never made it out of development hell. The more likely reason behind any delays is potentially just how popular actors like Reynolds are now.
