AOne Tree Hillsequel series, produced by former cast members Hilarie Burton, Sophia Bush, and Daneel Ackles, is currently being developed by Netflix. Burton and Bush are the onlytwo confirmed stars returning fortheOne Tree Hillsequel show, which is set to follow their characters Peyton Sawyer and Brooke Davis as they raise their now-teenage children. The popular teen series ended in 2012 after nine seasons, thoughBurton’s Peyton left afterOne Tree Hillseason 6, while Bush’s Brooke was a main character throughout the show’s run.

The other main stars ofOne Tree Hillwere Chad Michael Murray (Lucas Scott), James Lafferty (Nathan Scott), and Bethany Joy Lenz (Haley James Scott), though it’s unclear whether they’ll be joining the sequel series. The original show followed the Scott brothers as they went from rivals to teammates to friends to true family. The sequel plans to be more female-focused, andtheOne Tree Hillrevival showcould be missing an opportunity to bring back one of the show’s best, most important female characters.

One Tree Hill: Watch It Or Skip It Episode Guide For All 9 Seasons

One Tree Hill had a strong 9-season run with 187 episodes in total. Though the show is fondly remembered, not every episode needs to be watched.

The One Tree Hill Sequel Series Needs Haley James Scott

Haley James Scott Is One Of The Most Important One Tree Hill Characters

Though Peyton and Brooke startedOne Tree Hillas the main female friendship, with Haley introduced as Lucas’ best friend, they became a trio overOne Tree Hill’s many seasons. Thus, it was both shocking and concerning to me that the series was announced without Lenz’s involvement. It was especially confusing considering Bush, Burton, and Lenz have aOne Tree Hillrecap podcast together calledDrama Queens. Thissuggests that Lenz won’t be a part of theOne Tree Hillsequel series, which I think would be a major mistake.

Haley is one ofOne Tree Hill’s most important and beloved characters. She was often the heart of the show, bringing everyone together. Haley’s relationship with Nathan led to his amazing character growth and helped him and Lucas put their differences aside. It would be hard to make aOne Tree Hillsequel without Haley, as it would feel like a crucial part of the series is missing. Haley and Nathan also have a daughter around the same age as Peyton and Brooke’s children, so it would also be odd to try and explain their absence.

The Relationships Are What Made One Tree Hill Special

Haley isn’t the only character needed in theOne Tree Hillsequel to make it feel as special as the original series. The relationships inOne Tree Hillmade the show and kept viewers tuning in even when it could be campy and overdramatic at times, particularly in the later seasons.Deadlinereported that Murray likely won’t be returning asLucas in theOne Tree Hillsequel series, which wouldn’t be surprising given his history with ex-wife Bush, but it is disappointing.

Given Lucas’ relationship with Peyton, theOne Tree Hillsequel series has two options to write him off: have Peyton and Lucas divorce or kill Lucas off. Neither is likely to make fans happy. The series should take place in Tree Hill, and it’s hard to believe Nathan and Haley would leave the North Carolina town, especially since they always stayed despite multiple chances to leave. As withSamantha inAnd Just Like That…, theOne Tree Hillsequel series will always feel incomplete without Haley, Nathan, and Lucas.
