Colin Macrae isn’t starring inBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5, and I’m convinced he’s done with reality TV for good. The Chief Engineer was known for his affable personality, professionalism, and friendship with First Officer Gary King. However, his reputation fell apart when he developed a boatmance withChief Stew Daisy Kelliher, resulting in alove triangle between Colin, Daisy, and Gary. There are signsColin might return toBelow Deck Sailing Yacht, but I don’t think he’s coming back.
After Colin started to show interest in Daisy, his friendship with Gary was never the same. The problematic first officer began to show signs of jealousy, attempting to thwart their boatmance at every turn. Once they broke up, Daisy called out Gary for not being there for her in the wake of her heartbreak, and Gary is still reckoning with his unresolved feelings for Daisy inBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5. Colin was a beloved character on the Bravo spin-off, but I don’t think he’s ever coming back to the show, and here’s why.

Colin Isn’t A Clout Chaser
He Doesn’t Care About Reality TV Fame
The biggest reason I don’t think Colin will ever return toBelow Deck Sailing Yachtis because he’s not a clout chaser. Plenty of people go on reality TV to later find fame online or additional shows, butColin was onBelow Deck Sailing Yachtfor the love of yachting. Colin was working on boats long before he was hired on the Parsifal III by Captain Glenn Shephard and the Bravo production team.
20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
Originally from New Zealand, Colin spent most of his early years traveling and working in the marine industry, gaining extensive experience as an engineer on various yachts and superyachts. Interestingly, Colin also holds a Y4 engineering license, which qualifies him to work on large motor and sailing yachts, and his skills made him highly qualified to serve on the sailing yacht alongside Captain Glenn, Gary, and Daisy.

Colin’s unique skill set allowed him to be a laid-back cast member onBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseasons 2 through 4. While there were sometimes sticky situations onboard, Colin used his training and expertise to fix the problems and ensure the safety of everybody onboard. Colin was always on the show to do the job he loved, and it was obvious he couldn’t have cared less about whether he got famous for doing it. Once it wasn’t fun to be in the public eye, Colin bowed out.
Colin Was Able To Use His Fame To Start His YouTube Channel
He Fixed Up A Damaged Catamaran
Colin used his clout fromBelow Deck Sailing Yachtto start his own YouTube channel about sailing since leaving the show. On theSailing Parlay Revivalchannel, Colin shares his travels on a hurricane-damaged catamaran that he fixed up. His latest travels took him to Fiji, where he sailed with various friends and fellow yachties. Most recently, Colin returned to Tonga, where he had to leave his dogs while sailing to New Zealand and Fiji to visit friends and explore. It shows another side to Colin, and he’s amassed 332,000 followers on the popular YouTube channel.
Colin’s YouTube channel proves he’s moved on since Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

I don’t think Colin cares about returning toBelow Deck Sailing Yachtbecause of the success of his travelsand YouTube channel. He gained enough followers from the Bravo series to build an engaging YouTube channel while staying out of the drama. Colin managed to avoid high-stress personal situations for two seasons onBelow Deck Sailing Yacht, but after becoming the focal point of season 4, I think Colin discovered the dark side of fame. He’s no longer interested in engaging with negativity in the future.
Colin Might Want To Distance Himself From Gary
They Used To Be Good Friends
Colin likely wants to distance himself from Gary after the events ofBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 4 and his unsavory accusations from behind the scenes. The former Chief Engineer always wanted to stay out of the drama, and when Gary kept inserting himself into Colin’s relationship with Daisy, he understandably got uncomfortable.Gary and Colin also used to be good friends, joking around together and having a good time during and after the charters. Unfortunately, they let a relationship tear them apart, but that’s due to Gary’s immaturity.
Additionally, I think Colin wants to distance himself from Gary because of his sexual misconduct accusations. According to former Bravo makeup artist Samantha Suarez, Gary behaved inappropriately towards her when she escorted him back to his room after filming confessionals on the show. While she was able to escape, his inebriated behavior undoubtedly threatened her safety and made her uncomfortable. Bravo did hardly anything to punish Gary besides uninviting him from BravoCon in 2023.Gary is still in the main castofBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5.
Colin Won’t Return For Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 6
There’s No Compelling Reason For His Return

Colin isn’t someone who thrives on reality TV drama. It always seemed obvious that Colin didn’t want to engage in the entertainment side ofBelow Deck Sailing Yacht. He just wanted to do his job as an engineer and enjoy his life sailing on the high seas. While he was interested in Daisy, I wouldn’t be surprised if he regretted ever engaging in a boatmance with the chief stew. It caused unnecessary heartbreak and drama. If Colin never hooked up with Daisy, he’d probably still be onBelow Deck Sailing Yacht. Unfortunately, he can’t go back in time.
Below Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5 airs on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo and streams the next day on Peacock.
