I was surprised by many elements of Netflix’sKaos, including theGame of Thronesactor I initially missed.Kaos' star-studded castwas what drew me to the series in the first place, starting with Jeff Goldblum playing a deeply insecure and arrogant version of Zeus in thismodernized take on Greek mythology. FromJurassic Park’s Ian Malcolm toThor: Ragnarok’s the Grandmaster,Goldblum excels at every role he plays, which unsurprisingly continues to be the case inKaos.
In addition to Goldblum, I was excited to seeAurora Perrineau asKaos' Riddy, along with Janet McTeer as Hera, and David Thewlis as Hades. McTeer brings gravitas to all her characters; Perrineau was the breakout star ofWestworldseason 4, and Hades is a compelling role for Thewlis to play after previously portraying another mythological god, Ares, in DC’sWonder Woman. All of these actors deliver exceptional performances inKaos, as does the surprisingGame of Thronesactor, who is nothing like his character from the HBO series.

The True Meaning Of Zeus' Watch In Kaos Explained
Kaos season 1 puts a lot of emphasis on Zeus’ watch, and while it seems like a trivial object, it’s far more important than it initially appears.
I Can’t Believe I Missed Stannis Baratheon Actor Stephen Dillane In Netflix’s Kaos
He Looks And Acts Nothing Like Stannis
Game of Thrones' Stephen Dillane, who played Stannis Baratheon, not only appears inKaos, but plays a major role in the story. WhenKaos' first episode opened with Dillane’s narration, I immediately knew the voice sounded familiar, but it took me a while to place where I had heard it before.Even when hisKaoscharacter, Prometheus, was later shown onscreen, I still did not recognize the actor, whose appearance and character bear little resemblance to that of Stannis.
Stannis tended to wear formal attire or armor, while Dillane is practically naked and chained to the side of a cliff for much of Kaos, a stark contrast from Game of Thrones.

InKaos, Dillane sports a white beard and receding white hair. He looks nothing like Stannis, who has dark hair, is clean-shaven duringGame of Thronesseason 2, and looks younger than Prometheus. As a man determined to rule the Seven Kingdoms and sit on the Iron Throne, Stannis tended to wear formal attire or armor, while Dillane is practically naked and chained to the side of a cliff for much ofKaos, a stark contrast from Game of Thrones.
Who Stephen Dillane Plays In Netflix’s New Mythology Series
Dillane’s Character Is Pivotal To The Story
Kaos' version of Prometheus is eternally punished by Zeus, which is why Dillane’s character is constantly having his liver eaten by an eagle while chained to a cliff.Prometheus has been playing a long game to dethrone Zeus and the other gods, having planted the seeds long ago with a prophecy involving these three humans, one of whom is Perrineau’s character, Riddy. She and the other two humans are brought together, settingKaos' prophecy and Prometheus' schemein motion, with Prometheus being far more devious thanGame of Thrones' more straight-laced Stannis.
Prometheus pretends to be nothing more than a helpful and subservient consultant to Zeus, but subtly uses these meetings to manipulate him, pushing the god closer to his potential downfall.

As the narrator, Prometheus provides a great deal of information that I found to be helpful in better understanding the prophecy and keeping track of all the characters' identities, backstories, and motivations. At times, he is also summoned by Zeus, who seeks Prometheus' insights into matters that trouble him. Prometheus pretends to be nothing more than a helpful and subservient consultant to Zeus, but subtly uses these meetings to manipulate him, pushing the god closer to his potential downfall.
Kaos Continues A Positive TV Trend For The Game Of Thrones Star
Stephen Dillane’s Fresh Streak Continues
With a 69% Tomatometer score and an 80% Popcornmeter score,Kaosis yet another one of Dillane’s recent projects to receive fresh Rotten Tomatoes scores from critics and general audiences. Since 2015, Dillane’s only project to receive a rotten critical and audience score is the 2018 filmMary Shelley, starring Elle Fanning as the titular character. Every other project since then has fresh ratings, ranging from just barely at 63% to a perfect 100%.

This is an impressive streak for the actor that is further extended by the reception toKaos. The Netflix series does not have Dillane’s best scores since 2015, butKaosis his most high-profile project since appearing in the Emmy Award-winningGame of Thronesand the Academy Award-winningDarkest Hour. I hope this means thatDillane will continue to play fascinating new characters in a variety of films and television seriesas his career moves forward.
