While the movie looks to be staying largely true to its source material, Nick Frost revealsHow to Train Your Dragonwill feature one significant change for Gobber. Played by Craig Ferguson in the original animated franchise, the Cornetto Trilogy star is playing the blacksmith of the Viking village who is also the teacher of those looking to join the dragon hunters of the tribe. Alongside Frost, the live-actionHow to Train Your Dragoncastincludes Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn and Gerard Butler reprising his role.
During a recent interview withScreen Rantto discuss his upcoming horror-comedyGet Away, Frost was asked for a little insight into his take onHow to Train Your Dragon’s Gobber. In addition to praising writer/director Dean DeBlois for being collaborative with the entire cast and letting them “do what we wanted”,he did confirm there will be one significant change regarding Gobber’s bad leg, which came from a very practical need on Frost’s part. See what he shared below:

Well, Dean [DeBlois] was, he was very collaborative, and he allowed us to do what we wanted once we’d got what was written. The leg is different. I think Gobber’s right leg is missing, but my left leg is missing. I had a very bad knee. I’ve just had my knee replaced. And so Dean was very kind to me and said, ‘We’ll make sure your bad leg is Gobber’s bad leg too.’ So that’s one.
What This Means For How To Train Your Dragon
Staying Closer To The Animated Films Than The Books
While Frost’s comments indicate a simple change to the character, it actually stays largely true to Gobber’s appearance fromthe animatedHow to Train Your Dragonmovies. It was explained in the film thathe lost both his right leg and left arm when they were devoured by Monstrous Nightmares when he was younger, now sporting prosthetic limbs in both places. Compared to the books, however, this was a major change to Cressida Cowell’s source material, in which Gobber was described as a “a six-and-a-half-foot ax-wielding lunatic”.
The How To Train Your Dragon Movies Fixed The Books' Biggest Problem
How to Train Your Dragon’s media franchise exhibits its appeal. But the biggest mistake from the books was fixed by the movies, adding to its success.
Considering DeBlois was also the writer/director of the animated trilogy,it makes senseHow to Train Your Dragon’s characterswould hew closer to them. That hasn’t stopped some changes from being made, as Parker’s casting has led to Astrid being a Black character, which has sparked backlash from toxic fans of the franchise. DeBlois has since defended the casting decision as theLast of Usalum being the perfect embodiment of the character, while having also noted the movie’s fantasy setting rather than striving for historical accuracy.
Our Take On The Gobber Change In How To Train Your Dragon
A Minor Change Still Points To A Faithful Adaptation
While some diehard fans are likely to take issue with the switch in legs, Frost’s confirmation that Gobber still has a missing leg inHow to Train Your Dragongives me a lot of hopefor how faithful DeBlois and his cast and crew are staying to their animated originals. Though this may not sway some who are skeptical about the movie’s chances at matching the magic of the originals, it should at least come as some assurance that they’re not looking to make changes without some kind of thought.
