Cores are one of the types of currency inHyper Light Breaker, giving you a way to upgrade your character over time. Due to its importance, you’ll want to grab as many Cores as you can during a run through the Overgrowth’s Cycle. While there are a few ways to use Cores, you can always rely on one strategy to farm them every time you embark on a new journey.
Similar toBright Blood inHyper Light Breaker, Cores are mostly spent when your character is in the Hub. Before entering the Overgrowth during a Cycle, you canspend Cores in the Hub to purchase a variety of upgradestied to whoever you’re playing as. However, some of these enhancements can be permanent, while others only last until you’ve used up all your Rezes.
What Cores Do In Hyper Light Breaker
Boost Your Character’s Sycom Stats
You use Cores toupgrade your character’s Sycom, which is their collection of stats. Accessible when you look up your character’s loadout in the Hub, Cores can be applied to different attributes to increase them in preparation for your next run. When you die in the Overgrowth, you’ll have some time to spend some of the Cores you retained on stat improvements before you go back.
All SyCom Abilities & How To Upgrade Them In Hyper Light Breaker
Getting your character leveled up in Hyper Light Breaker requires several different materials and different trees, including the SyCom abilities.
Core upgrades to a Sycom only last for a single Cycle, meaning that they reset at the same time as the Overgrowth. You only have four lives to use on multiple runs before a Cycle ends, which causes any Core stat boosts to disappear.Every playable character inHyper Light Breakerhas their own, sometimes unique, stats that you can boost temporarily when you have extra Cores.
You may be better off using Cores tounlock new Pherus Bit Tiersin the Hub. The Pherus Bit is a permanent upgrade path that you can slowly unlock as you go through multiple Cycles. Cores are spent on accessing new node Tiers of the Pherus Bit’s upgrade paths, which each branch out into many different buffs you can buy.
Later Tiers of the Pherus Bit upgrade system cost both Cores and Abyss Stones to unlock. Abyss Stones are perhaps the rarest currency in the game, as they are only dropped by defeatingCrown bosses inHyper Light Breaker.
Unlike the Sycom boosts,Tiers of the Pherus Bit path bought by Cores remain through Cycles. This is where you should be spending your Cores first since stat boosts will reset after a completed Cycle of the Overgrowth.
How To Get More Cores
Hunt For Stashes Around The Overgrowth
There are two ways to get Cores inHyper Light Breaker, including:
Stashes will always have at least one Corekept in locked chests that you can only open by spending an amount of Bright Blood. Bright Blood is the most common currency in the game, dropping from defeated enemies and destructible objects around the Overgrowth. By spending the Bright Blood you have to open Stashes revealed on your map, Cores can be farmed consistently.
While every Stash in the Overgrowth is marked on your map, some are locked behind barriers. You’ll need to collect a rare Key to unlock these Stashes and the Cores guarenteed within them.
Another way to get more Cores is to collect Core Shards, which are also scattered around the Overgrowth.Core Shards are usually dropped by Elite variant enemies, the same types of foes who drop Prisms that unlock Crown boss arenas. Like Stashes, these enemies are marked on your map for you to track down. Once you collect four Core Shards, they’ll automatically combine to form a single, full, Core.
Core Shards also can be found on random objectsin the Overgrowth that you loot, like bone piles. Anyone who gets more Cores during a run ofHyper Light Breakerwill have many to spend on various upgrades back at the Hub to make their character much stronger.
