Black Myth: Wukong’s Great Bosses Highlight The Game’s Biggest Problem

The climactic heights of Black Myth: Wukong are incredibly high, but they make the weak points seem even more disappointing by comparison.

Four of the Eyeballs can be found near the Squall HideoutKeeper’s Shrine, while thelast two are found close to the Rockrest Flat area. Explore around each Shrine to find these items, which are not too far off the paths leading from each resting spot. It shouldn’t be too hard to spot each one, as they glow brightly within their statue heads as you run around trying to collect them.

TheStone Vanguard inBlack Myth: Wukongwas fought beyond the gate in the Rockrest Flat region, which you can reach through a Keeper’s Shrine. Go to the rock with many faces carved into it, then choose the"Deliver"option to interact with it and summon Shigandang.

How To Prepare For Shigandang

Have Strong Defenses And Plenty Of Healing

Shigandang is one of the toughest bosses in the game when you’re able to face it in Chapter 2, namely because of its massive health pool. This boss deals ridiculous damage with every punch, slam, and shockwave AoE it creates as you fight it. As a result, you may need to have the best gear available at this point in the story to stand a chance against the large rock golem.

Don’t bother trying to use anything other than physical damage against Shigandang, as its stone bodyprotects it from almost all elemental damage. Thankfully, the boss doesn’t inflict any status effects, making this battle pretty straightforward. A strong weapon like theWind Bear Staffyou can make in Chapter 2 is a good choice for this fight because of its high damage output.

The Wind Bear Staff is arguably thestrongest weapon inBlack Myth: Wukongduring the second Chapter. This weapon increases the Critical Hit Chance of your Unveiling Strike move while you use the Cloud Step spell.

Anything that raises your physical defense is good for this fight as well. Trybringing consumable items that boost your defense, such as theEvil Repelling Medicamentyou can get in exchange for Will from NPC vendors. Along with good spells like Immobilize, strong Spirit transformations, and consistent healing from your Gourd, you should have everything you need to challenge Shigandang.

How To Defeat Shigandang

Wait To Punish Powerful Moves When They End

The greatest weakness of Shigandang is that the boss' bulk and strength make themvery slow with all its attacks. This gives you time to react to attack patterns and punish moves when their animations are completed throughout the fight.Wait for attacks to end and punish the boss aggressivelyto deal slow, but consistent, damage to its huge health bar.

How To Counter

Sweeping Stones

Shigandang spins around 180 degrees, sweeping its body in a circular motion to hit anything that remains too close to it.

The boss hits its fists into the ground one at a time to signal this attack. Recognize this start-up animation, then either get under the boss or dodge backward to get away.

Reverse Body Slam

When you are behind it, Shigandang throws its full weight of the stones on its back onto you by leaning backward and falling with a huge slam.

Run to either side or dodge out of the way of the boss' shell as it starts to fall.

Rock Stomp

Shigandang raises one of its legs, then stomps it onto the ground, where it creates a large AoE shockwave.

As the boss raises its leg, run away from it to gain some distance. Then dodge the shockwave right as it is about to reach you to avoid taking damage.

Every Missable Boss Fight In Black Myth: Wukong & What Triggers It

Black Myth: Wukong has a lot of optional boss fights, some of which, and their rewards, are missable if players don’t follow the right steps.

Advancing Slam

Charging toward you, Shigandang will jump at you and slam its body on the ground in an attempt to crush you. This slam creates a traveling AoE shockwave.

Run away from the boss until it slams down, then dodge the resulting shockwave with the right timing.

Double Earthquake

Shigandang raises one arm and a leg on one side before slamming both on the ground to create two AoE shockwaves. A final follow-up slam from this creates yet another shockwave.

Watch for the damage radius of each traveling AoE and dodge each of them right as they are about to hit you.

Pillars Of Buddha

After slamming into the ground, Shigandang raises up several pillars of rock before charging a slam that makes them all explode.

When the boss hops up for this attack’s first slam, run to one side of it to avoid where the pillars are created. Then, get close to the boss to avoid the damage radius of each pillar’s explosion.

Whenever one of these moves is completed, use Immobilize to freeze the bossand get free damage against it. During this time, unleash heavy attacksfromvarious stances inBlack Myth: Wukongto punish the boss further. Although these moves won’t stagger the creature, they can make it stumble back for long enough for you to gain Focus back with a light attack combo.

Rewards For Defeating Shigandang

Gain Crafting Materials And A Special Key Item

When you finally manage to take down Shigandang, you will be given this selection of items and currency as rewards:

The Heart of Stone can help you craft a better weapon as you move on to Chapter 3, especially with the added Will currency gained from this boss' defeat. Similarly, the Skandha of Feeling can be used later to gain a special item, while the Mind Core can helpcraft strong medicines inBlack Myth: Wukong. Make sure to explore what item you receive to grow in strength for future challenges.

The final boss of Chapter 2 should be extremely easy compared to the stone golem you just fell. Those who beat Shigandang inBlack Myth: Wukongshould try to also face Black Loong, another secret boss hidden within the same section of this story, for another worthy opponent.
