Steven Ogg has a great pitch forGrand Theft Auto 6. A prolific actor of the big and small screen, Steven Ogg is best known in the video game industry for lending his voice toGTA 5’s Trevor Philips, one of its three playable protagonists. AsGTA 5’s resident wildcard, Trevor has become one of its most beloved characters, and in the breathlessspeculation about everythingGTA 6, many fans have hoped he’d make a return. At present, he says, he hasn’t recorded anything - but he does have a great idea for a cameo.
In a recent interview withScreen Rant, Ogg laid out details of his pitch for a Trevor cameo inGTA 6. “I wish it would be fun if Trevor appeared in it just to be killed at the beginning,” he said, referencing a similar scene during Trevor’s introduction inGTA 5. Shortly after Trevor first appears, he’s confronted by Johnny Kleibitz, a minor character fromGTA 4who also starred inThe Lost and the DamnedDLC. In a demonstration of his volatility, Trevor snaps and turns on him, killing him unceremoniously on the spot.

At Least, Not In A Major Capacity
As far as Steven Ogg knows, though,it doesn’t look like Trevor will be returning forGTA 6(or that Ogg will be returning in another role). As good as it is, Ogg’s pitch will always remain just that. There’s no knowing whetherGTA 6contains any connections toGTA 5; while we know it takes place in the same world as the rest of the series, any specifics will have to wait until the full release.
Analysts Claim Making GTA 6 $80-$100 Would Be A “Turning Point” For The Gaming Industry, & Fans Aren’t Happy
A gaming analyst has commented that many are hopeful for Grand Theft Auto 6 to change the industry standard of pricing, potentially charging $80-100.
Still, Ogg’s Trevor idea is intriguing, andcould work well thematicallywithGTA 6’s plot. He goes on to say, “I think that would be cool, because it also acknowledges the fans of like, ‘Hey, thank you.’ Pass the torch, stomp Trevor’s head in, and sort of put an end to that and allow a new generation to take over.”

Trevor’s already past his prime by the time the real action ofGTA 5begins; assumingGTA 6is set a few years later, which it almost certainly is, it’s most definitely time for him to throw in the towel. This kind of passing-the-torch moment isa great way to introduce fans toGTA 6’s all-new cast, just as the original scene was the perfect introduction to Trevor.
Our Take: GTA 6’s New Setting & Protagonists Are A Great Move
GTA Always Keeps Things Fresh
But as difficult as it’ll be to leave old favorites like Trevor behind,GTA 6definitely needed a new cast. Playable characters rarely recur from oneGTAgame to the next. While they may appear in the background of future games, like Johnny Kleibitz did and Steven Ogg wants Trevor to do, it’s pretty much unheard of for the same protagonist to come back from game to game. This is partially because each one takes place ina different city from the last.
AlthoughGTAgames typically reuse the same few cities, they don’t necessarily always do so in the same order.

But more importantly, it’s becauseeveryGTAgame is a complete story in and of itself, with its own themes, characters, and arcs.GTAdoesn’t do direct sequels because it doesn’t need direct sequels. It’d almost be disrespectful to a character to bring them back for a second run as protagonist. IfGTA’s done its job, their story has already had a satisfying conclusion.
So, as much as many fans would like to see Trevor (and Franklin, and Michael) return, it’s almost certainly for the best that they’ll be left out. (Though a cameo wouldn’t hurt.) Its the only way to ensureGrand Theft Auto 6can stand on its own merits.
