Summary

Futuramahas finally returned for season 12, and the new batch of episodes has finally brought back two of my favorite Bender variants. ThroughoutFuturama’s 12 seasons, there have been all kinds of different versions of Bender, with his family members and alternate-universe depictions being littered throughout the show. While these Bender variants rarely reappear after their debut episodes,Futuramaseason 12has finally referenced two of them for the first time in years.

Futuramaseason 12, episode 1, “The One Amigo” kicks off the newest season with a Bender-centric episode, followingBender as he tracks down his origins in Mexicoin order to meet more of his family. The film sheds some light on Bender’s relatives, with the episode acting as a celebration of the character’s history. Interestingly, the episode features a reference to two Bender variantsfrom some of my favoriteFuturamastories, and I couldn’t be happier to see the show finally give them a nod.

The legendary sci-fi comedy cartoon Futurama has continued to be popular after being revived in 2023, and it has already been renewed for more.

Futurama Season 12, Episode 1 Brings Back Universe 1 Bender & Titanius Anglesmith

For The First Time In Years

Although they don’t truly appear in the episode,Futuramaseason 12, episode 1 features an Easter eggthat brings back Universe 1 Bender and Titanius Anglesmith, two of my favorite versions of Bender. In the episode, Bender decides to sell NFTs of his likeness, with him wearing various costumes while photographing himself to create the line of NFTs.

While many of these Bender NFTs are seemingly random costumes, two of them are direct references to these beloved Bender variants. In one NFT, Bender’s metal plating turns to gold, with this being the same look as thegolden Universe 1 Bender from the episode “The Farnsworth Parabox.“In another NFT, Bender is dressed up as a medieval knight, with this being the exact same look as Bender’s Dungeons & Dragons character Titanius Anglesmith from theFuturamamovieBender’s Game.

Futurama season 12, episode 1 centers its entire story around a niche piece of technology, with the end of the episode hitting this reference home.

“The One Amigo” Was The Perfect Time To Bring Back These Classic Bender Variants

It Would’ve Been A Shame If Futurama Missed This Opportunity

Of all the times thatFuturamacould have brought back these Bender variants, “The One Amigo” was the perfect option. The episode is all about Bender wanting to find his family members in order to prove his uniqueness, with this being a response to his likeness being sold as an NFT. So, including these two unique Bender variants highlights just how outstanding thePlanet Express crew’s Benderis.

Although I do love these two versions of Bender, “The One Amigo” did miss the opportunity to bring back several Bender clones. For example, the belovedFuturamavillain Flexo could have returned in this episode, or at least been references. While I do still miss these other Bender associates, it is at least nice forFuturamaseason 12 to bring these characters back.
